A story asserting Chris Pratt and Anna Faris want to “protect” their son from the “pain” of their split was made up. Gossip Cop can reveal a certain webloid jumped to this obvious conclusion, and didn’t actually discuss the situation with sources close to the estranged spouses.

As Gossip Cop reported, Pratt and Faris are separating after eight years of marriage. After they jointly announced the news on Sunday, HollywoodLife did what it always does when there’s a hot topic: It started pretending to have “exclusive” insight. First, the webloid claimed it “exclusively” learned that the couple split because they “couldn’t make their love and & careers co-exist.” That was followed by a piece in which the site alleged it had the inside scoop on Pratt still considering the family house to be his home base, with his belongings still there.

Now on Tuesday, the outlet’s latest “exclusive” was published with the headline, “Chris Pratt & Anna Faris Want To Protect Son Jack, 4, From The ‘Pain’ Of Their Split.” The story begins, “Although Chris Pratt and Anna Faris have split, they’re still teaming up to make sure their son, Jack remains emotionally protected throughout their shocking separation.” What’s “exclusive” about that?

Absolutely nothing. As Gossip Cop reported, Pratt and Faris said in their statement nearly two days ago, “Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another.” In other words, they have every intention of protecting their son and said as much.

But HollywoodLies is quoting a so-called “source” as saying, “Chris and Anna are trying to be especially sensitive and careful about how they deal with their split for the sake of their son, Jack. Anna and Chris want to make this separation easy and gentle on Jack, who they both want to protect from the inevitable pain of separating parents.” Um, isn’t that virtually all parents want? What parents wouldn’t want to protect their kids from the pain of divorce? The webloid is merely stating the obvious, just as it has it with its previous stories.

For instance, that first article about Pratt and Faris’ split being caused by career issues was simply in line with suggestive comments both have made in interviews about the difficulty of balancing personal and professional lives. What’s also notable is that this report ends with the site writing, “While the reason behind their split still remains a mystery, the speculation that there’s an underlying scandal is at an all time high.” The reason for the split “remains a mystery,” yet HollywoodLies claimed one day ago to “exclusively” know that they were breaking up over career conflicts.

The online publication’s stories vary between being completely contradictory to abundantly obvious for one simple reason: It’s all a transparent attempt at exploiting Pratt and Faris’ split for traffic purposes, regardless of authenticity, originality, legitimacy and accuracy. As the outlet always does, HollywoodLies just wants to capitalize on one of the subjects currently dominating the world of pop culture. All Gossip Cop can do is, investigate, hold the webloid accountable, and spread the word. In this case, we’re told real sources close to Faris and Pratt are not talking to HollywoodLies, and its posts are merely guesswork.
