Did Chris Martin ask ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow for permission to get married to Dakota Johnson? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we've learned the truth.
Martin and Johnson joined Paltrow and her husband Brad Falchuk in the Maldives over New Year's, and according to Star, the Coldplay frontman wanted to get clearance from his ex-wife before proposing to his girlfriend. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "The main reason why Chris and Dakota went away on vacation with Gwyneth and Brad was because they wanted to clear the air and set aside their differences - before announcing to the world that they're getting married too."
The outlet's story simply isn't accurate. Paltrow revealed on "Live with Kelly and Ryan" last week that her trip to the Maldives was actually her honeymoon. The actress said, "We had a big family honeymoon over Christmas. So, my new husband and his children, my children, my ex-husband, our best family friends [all went]. It was a very modern honeymoon."
Meanwhile, the idea that the two couples would need to "set aside their differences" isn't true either. Paltrow explained during her "Live" appearance that she and Martin have remained very friendly "to minimize the pain for the kids." She added, "And they just want to see their parents around the dinner table, basically, so we just try to keep that." Additionally, Johnson had spent Thanksgiving with Paltrow, Martin and the their kids. There are no differences to set aside.
The tabloid's story is also based on claims from an anonymous "source," but Gossip Cop reached out to Paltrow's rep, who tells us on the record that it's nonsense. It's worth noting, Star has a very poor track record when it comes to accurately reporting about the actress's personal life. Gossip Cop busted the tabloid last November for wrongly reporting that Paltrow was adopting a baby girl with her new husband. That hasn't happened, and the actress has already stated in interviews that she's not having more kids.
Last September, Gossip Cop called out the magazine for falsely claiming that Falchuk was calling off his wedding to Paltrow. The outlet insisted that the actress had been "dumped at the altar" because her then-fiance was jealous of how close she was with Martin. Just two weeks later, Paltrow and Falchuk walked down the aisle. This latest article is more fiction from the unreliable tabloid.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
