Chris Martin performed a moving tribute to George Michael at the 2017 Brit Awards on Wednesday. Watch below.

Prior to the performance, the Brits featured a montage that honored other music stars who died over the last year, such as Leonard Cohen. The taped bit started with Michael, though, and after it ended, his Wham bandmate Andrew Ridgeley took the stage. He was joined by their collaborators, Pepsi and Shirlie, who tearfully spoke of their relationship with the legendary singer.

After their speeches, Martin was introduced to sing “A Different Corner.” Touchingly, as he performed, a screen behind him showed the late Michael singing the same track. At one point, their two voices blended the past and present perfectly.

“A Different Corner” was released in 1986 while Michael was still in Wham. But the song helped launch what would be an iconic solo career. As Gossip Cop has reported, that career unexpectedly ended on Christmas Day when Michael was found dead in bed at age 53. Though nearly two months have passed, no official cause of death has been announced.

Martin’s performance comes 10 days after Adele did a George Michael tribute at the Grammys. Though this year’s Global Success honoree at the Brits, she was not in attendance tonight. Watch video of Martin’s tribute below.
