Did Chris Martin really flirt with Dakota Johnson’s mom Melanie Griffith when the three met up for lunch? That’s the case according to one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop, however, can exclusively clear up the situation.

A so-called “source” tells Star that “things got a little awkward” during a meal between the three “when Chris confessed to having a crush on Melanie as a kid after watching Body Double,” the 1984 thriller in which the actress dances topless. “Dakota was mortified! She had no idea that Chris used to have a poster of her mother hanging in his bedroom.”

According to the questionable insider, Griffith “loved all the attention” she was getting from her daughter’s boyfriend, and later “warned Dakota that she might steal Chris for herself.” But Gossip Cop checked in with Griffith and Johnson’s mutual camp, who laughed off the tabloid’s report before exclusively assuring us it “never happened.” This phony article was seemingly concocted because Griffith was a sex symbol when Martin was 7 years old, but there’s no truth to the claim that he flirted with her during a lunch.

It’s worth noting, the unreliable outlet fails to provide any specifics to substantiate this meeting even happened. The tabloid doesn’t mention when or where this supposed meal took place. In fact, it’s not clear whether Griffith was really introduced to the Coldplay frontman. There’s zero transparency to the magazine’s report.

That, of course, makes part of debunking it more difficult. Here’s what Gossip Cop knows. Martin and Johnson’s relatively new romance seems to have sparked around October of last year. They’ve been spotted on several dates over the past few months and both attended Stella McCartney’s fashion show in Los Angeles earlier this week, but they don’t appear to be at the “meet the parents” phase of their relationship. It appears, based on the tabloid’s fuzzy report and our fact-checking with Griffith and Johnson’s team that the incident described in the magazine never actually occurred.

This also isn’t the first time we’ve had to debunk bogus rumors about the actress and rocker’s burgeoning romance. Earlier this month, Gossip Cop busted Star’s sister outlet, RadarOnline, for wrongly reporting that Johnson and Martin were planning a wedding after just a few months of dating. This latest article about the new couple is equally untrue.
