Chris Martin is not "planning" for Dakota Johnson to meet Gwyneth Paltrow. A flurry of wrong reports claim the Coldplay front man is ready to introduce his girlfriend to his ex-wife. Gossip Cop can easily debunk these ill-informed stories.
The allegations were originally published by Grazia, a UK tabloid, which teases on the cover of its latest issue, "Chris Sends Dakota For The 'Gwyneth Test.'" The contentions then rapidly spread online over the last few days after the Daily Mail picked them up online. The British paper asserts "Chris has been setting up a meeting between the pair," and quotes a supposed source from the gossip magazine as claiming, "It was only a matter of time until they'd meet and Chris has already started suggesting an introduction."
This alleged tipster, however, goes on to describe the "situation" as "slightly intimidating" for Johnson, and even contends, "Her friends have joked that's it's like preparing to meet your mother-in-law for the first time." The publication's purported insider further maintains, "Chris still puts Gwyneth on a pedestal, and her opinion means a lot to him. It might be awkward, but Dakota may well find that she has to get used to it."
A number of places have spread the claims in recent days, including Metro and The Christian Post. But there's two significant problems. Firstly, none of these outlets fact-checked the assertions. Secondly, had they investigated, they would've learned that Martin is not planning an "introduction" for the pair because Johnson and Paltrow have already met.
The pair spent time together at a Goop-sponsored event back in the spring of 2014. They even posed for a photo with Jennifer Meyer and Tobey Maguire, along with Meyer's Hollywood executive dad, Ron Meyer. What's more is that Martin attended the gathering, too. So, while the circumstances of that hang-out nearly four years ago are different than the dynamic now, given Johnson's romantic relationship with the rocker, it makes little sense to allege the actress will be meeting Paltrow "for the first time" when that's clearly not the case.
The only aspect here that's actually true is that Martin and his ex-wife remain close, to the point where Paltrow recently said he's "like my brother." It's not unreasonable to guess that he'd want her to be on board with his relationship with Johnson, much like Martin supports her coupling with Brad Falchuk. But all of this nonsense about setting up a "meeting" for Johnson to pass a "Gwyneth test" is just that... nonsense.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
