Chris Blue Voice Semifinals Video

Chris Blue gave a powerful gospel performance on Monday’s “The Voice.” Check out the video below.

The NBC competition will have the biggest elimination of season 12 on Tuesday, with half of the eight remaining contestants getting the boot. The Team Alicia artist is hoping to be one of the four sticking around for next week’s finale. And after Blue’s cover of “24K Magic” last week earned a standing ovation from all of the coaches, he seemed well on his way to the finals.

Interestingly, though, for tonight’s semifinals, he went in a very different direction from last week. With mentoring from his coach Alicia Keys, Blue opted to perform “Take Me To The King,” a Grammy-nominated contemporary gospel song from Tamela Mann. During rehearsal, he explained, “I come from church and that’s my roots… I don’t feel like I’ve shown America the pure Chris Blue.” Keys agreed, predicting, “I might be crying.”

Well, when Blue performed on the live show, both Keys and Stefani appeared to have tears in their eyes, and they were joined in a standing ovation by Blake Shelton. Still standing, Keys said, “I knew you could do it, and just let all the walls down and tap into that place in yourself.” Watch video of the performance below, as well as Blue’s duet with fellow Team Alicia member Vanessa Ferguson.
