One of this week's tabloids claims Cher's viral condition has returned and her friends fear she'll be too sick to continue performing. The story is completely false. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk it.
Back in 1986, the singer was diagnosed with the Epstein-Barr virus, an autoimmune disease that causes chronic fatigue and other flu-like symptoms. Thanks to treatment, she's kept the condition mostly under control. In fact, the singer hasn't suffered a bout of the illness since 2008.
The Globe is now alleging that the singer's virus has returned amid her Las Vegas residency and ahead of her Here We Go Again tour, which kicks off in January 2019. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "She's struggling every day to find the strength to carry on. She's in the grips of the devastating Epstein-Barr virus and it's difficult to get out of bed sometimes." The outlet's supposed source further contends that all of Cher's loved ones are "just praying for a miracle."
The publication's story is completely false. Despite what the magazine's anonymous and untraceable "source" claims, Gossip Cop checked in with a rep for Cher, who tells us on the record that she's in perfectly good health. Of course, this is backed up by the fact that the singer has been performing her Las Vegas residency since February 2017. In fact, Cher's spokesperson even added, "Have they seen her show recently in Vegas?"
Meanwhile, Cher spoke to People magazine earlier this week about her upcoming Here We Go Again tour, during which she'll perform her classics along with songs off her new ABBA cover album Dancing Queen. "My favorite thing is being on stage," she told the outlet. "It's like playing tennis - if you give off a lot of energy, then they give a lot of energy back."
The 72-year-old singer went on to acknowledge that there "will be some point where I can't tour," but made it clear that she's not at that point yet. "It'll get to a place where I can't do it, and I don't want to think, 'I wish I would have done more now that I can no longer do it,' because I still enjoy it," Cher explained. "I still sing well and I just want to do it until I'm finished."
It's worth noting, this isn't the first time the Globe has published a phony report about the singer's health. In August, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for making up story about Cher coming back from the verge of death thanks to a "miracle cure." This latest article on the subject is more nonsense.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
