Cher performed “Believe” and “If I Could Turn Back Time” at Sunday’s 2017 Billboard Music Awards, where she was honored by Gwen Stefani with the Icon Award. Watch the video below!

“Believe” was released in 1998 as the lead single from the album of the same name. It topped music charts around the globe, including the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the rankings for Top 40 Tracks and Dance Club Songs. “Believe” later won Best Dance Recording at the 2000 Grammys, and was also nominated for Record of the Year. The song is considered by many to feature one of the earliest uses of auto-tune for vocal effects.

Of course, the Billboard Music Awards chose to honor Cher this year not just for that song, but also her overall body of work. When it was announced earlier this month that the legend would receive the award, it was noted she’s notched number one songs on the Billboard charts in every decade since 1960. The beloved artist said in a statement, “I’m honored to receive the 2017 Billboard Music Awards Icon Award and take the stage to celebrate my love of music with my fans.”

She went on, “Seeing so many powerful artists, especially female artists, emerge and take their place in history through the years has been incredible. I’m honored to be amongst the previous icon Award winners and to celebrate this milestone achievement by performing ‘Believe’ on the show.” As the Icon Award recipient, Cher follows in the footsteps of Celine Dion, who earned the recognition last year. Dion is back at this year’s BBMAs to mark the 20th anniversary of Titanic and “My Heart Will Go On.”

For Cher, this is her first awards show performance in more than 15 years. She’s also a previous Billboard Music Awards winner, with three awards to her name before tonight. That includes Hot 100 Single of the Year for “Believe” in 1999. She also received the Artist Achievement Award in 2002, along with being named Dance/Club Play Artist of the Year that same year. Check out full video of the “Believe” and “If I Could Turn Back Time” performances below, as well as the Icon Award tribute from Stefani and Cher’s speech.
