Charlize Theron hasn't joined the cast of Wonder Woman 2, despite a report from a year ago speculating that the actress had signed on for the superhero sequel. Gossip Cop debunked the report this time last year. It's been proven false.

On July 24, 2017, HollywoodLife and a few other outlets suspected that Theron was joining Gal Gadot in the second Wonder Woman movie based on a comment she made at Comic Con. During a panel called "Women Who Kick Ass," Theron read a note from the film's director, Patty Jenkins, who she worked with in the 2003 film Monster. Part of the letter stated, "I can't wait to work with my friend again one day," to which the actress responded, "We're gonna do it... I would love to work with her again."

A handful of publications interpreted Theron's words as an official announcement that she was joining Wonder Woman 2. The actress, however, never suggested that she had a role in the DC Comics sequel. She simply stated that she plans to work with Jenkins again one day in the future. Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a rep for Theron when the casting rumors emerged last year, and we were told on the record that the actress was "definitively not" involved in the Wonder Woman sequel. As opposed to theorizing about a star's career, we check in with reliable sources authorized to speak on their behalf.

A different female star did in fact join the cast of the comic book sequel, titled Wonder Woman 1984. This past February, it was announced that Kristen Wiig would play the film's villain, Cheetah, an archeologist with the ability to transform into a half-human, half-cheetah hybrid.

Meanwhile, Theron has a few projects lined up, but none of them include Wonder Woman 1984, which is currently in production. In May, Theron was cast as Megyn Kelly in a movie about Roger Ailes and Fox News. The following month, Theron signed on to voice a role in an animated Addams Family movie.

It should be noted, Theron turned down a role in the first Wonder Woman due to scheduling conflicts, but she was never approached for the sequel. It's been reported that the actress was initially offered Robin Wright's character General Antiope, who doesn't appear in the follow-up. Due to Theron's relationship with Jenkins and the fact that she circled the first film, it's not out of the question for the actress to get involved in the franchise at some point. As for Wonder Woman 1984, that's not the case.
