According to a report from a year ago, Charlize Theron and Alexander Skarsgard were getting married and having kids. Gossip Cop immediately debunked the claim, which was not remotely grounded in reality. And while we were right back then, it's even more obvious now how wrong a particular tabloid's story was with its manufactured premise.
A full 12 months ago, OK! insisted Theron and Skarsgard fell in love while filming the movie Long Shot. The publication went on to maintain they had gotten so serious during production that they were planning to wed and have children together. There was one tiny problem with the magazine's narrative: Skarsgard and Theron weren't even dating.
When the article first came out, Gossip Cop was assured by a source close to the South African actress there was no romance between her and Skarsgard. Still, other outlets regurgitated the publication's tale linking the two co-stars without bothering to fact-check it. It's abundantly clear now, as we first noted 365 days ago, that Theron and Skarsgard did not begin a relationship on the set of Long Shot, and to date they are still not a couple.
It also bears mentioning that the outlet hasn't become any more reliable over the past year with its subsequent articles about Theron. In January, for instance, Gossip Cop busted the magazine when it falsely contended that while divorcing Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt began a romance with Theron. Of course, as Pitt's rep confirmed then, he and Theron never dated either.
And then three months ago, the same tabloid seemingly forgot its previous narratives involving Pitt and Skarsgard because it inaccurately asserted Theron was having Sandra Bullock help her find a boyfriend. That too was untrue. Despite being tied to different men, Theron herself has said she hasn't been in a relationship for a long time.
This past April, Theron said she's been "single for 10 years" and "available" to date. And as Gossip Cop pointed out last year when the magazine wrongly alleged Theron and Skarsgard were dating and going to start a family, regardless of who the Oscar-winner eventually goes out with, she's not having more children. In 2018, Theron told Hello!, "I am for sure finished" having kids.
When Gossip Cop reexamines stories from the year before it's not to congratulate ourselves for being right. It's to help readers assess with the passage of time which outlets they can and cannot trust for information about certain celebrities. In this case, the tabloid's track record when reporting about Theron and her dating life has been less than OK.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
