Charlie Sheen is suing the National Enquirer over a story claiming he raped the late Corey Haim. The actor’s lawsuit also targets one of the supermarket tabloid’s top editors, Dylan Howard.

Nearly a month ago, the gossip magazine published an article in its print edition alleging Sheen sexually assaulted Haim while they worked on the movie Lucas, which was released in 1986. At the time, Sheen was 19 and Haim was 13. Haim later died in 2010 at the age of 38 after struggling with drug addiction.

The rape allegation lit up social media, prompting Sheen’s rep to release a short statement declaring, “Charlie categorically denies these allegations.” He also found what some may see as an unlikely defender in Haim’s mom. In an interview on “The Dr. Oz Show,” Judy Haim insisted Sheen did not rape her son, because she would’ve known at the time if he did. “I would have known if anything was wrong… He never hid anything,” she said of her child.

Now in Sheen’s lawsuit against the Enquirer, the actor points out Haim’s mother’s denials. His camp again reiterates that the allegations are untrue, and suggests the outlet only ran the report because Howard has it out for him. The editor, who is currently the chief content officer of American Media Inc. and oversees several of its tabloids, remains angered the National Enquirer did not break the story that Sheen is HIV-positive, according to the lawsuit’s claims.

As first reported by TMZ, Sheen is suing for defamation and portrayal in a false light. It is unclear how much money he is seeking in damages. Prior to the lawsuit’s filing, Howard was also in the news this week when the Associated Press uncovered that he was investigated for sexual misconduct while overseeing the company’s Los Angeles office in 2012. In response to the expose, AMI said Howard still has their “full support.”
