Charlie Sheen was “very relieved” after disclosing he has HIV on Tuesday’s “Today,” a source close to the situation exclusively tells Gossip Cop.

As Gossip Cop reported, Sheen sat down for a live interview with Matt Lauer, during which he revealed he found out he was HIV-positive in 2011. The actor and his doctor detailed how he’s spent the last four years on a medication cocktail to control the disease. Now they’ve managed to get the illness to the point where it is practically untraceable in Sheen’s blood.

Sheen spoke with Lauer for roughly 20 minutes, answering a wide range of personal questions. The former “Two and a Half Men” star candidly addressed his sexual relationships, his addiction to drugs and alcohol, and the millions of dollars he paid to people who threatened to tell his secret to the world. But now Sheen had worked up the courage to confess, and Gossip Cop is told he’s pleased with how it went.

In fact, one source describes Sheen as “VERY relieved” afterward. Our insider acknowledges that Sheen was “nervous,” but thought that worked in his favor. We’re further told the star was “honest” and earnest in his statements.

Sheen planned to return to Los Angeles following the broadcast, with the intention to focus on both his health and his career. The source tells Gossip Cop he is “considering offers in all areas of showbiz.” And manager Mark Burg’s phones has already been “ringing off the hook.” Gossip Cop will continue to have updates as appropriate.
