President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that transgender people will not be allowed to serve in the U.S. military. Celebrities are now reacting on Twitter to the decision. See Hollywood stars’ tweets below.

In June 2016, the Pentagon lifted a ban on transgender men and women serving in the military, but the Trump administration has decided to put the prohibition back in place. The president tweeted Wednesday, “After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.”

Among the celebrities weighing in on the announcement is Andy Cohen, who asked, “Are you TRYING to be an asshole?” Alyssa Milano said, “Well, at least Trump isn’t announcing major policy change on twitter. Oh, wait…” And Zoe Kazan offered, “@realDonaldTrump you may be the president in name, but you shame that office & the USA in your treatment of our service men & women today.”

Meanwhile, Taran Killam told Trump, “You will go down in history as the worst, most cowardly, most selfish, biggest failure of a president ever. #heartless.” George Takei stated, “Donald: With your ban on trans people from the military, you are on notice that you just pissed off the wrong community. You will regret it.” And Mia Farrow expressed, “No. My God. This must be challenged.”

Sandra Bernhard directed a message to Caitlyn Jenner, writing, “wake up sweetheart give Your wonderful president a call & discuss #noTransgender in military congrats on a great choice!” And Dustin Lance Black noted, “I grew up in a military w/ LGBT people serving in the shadows. We can’t let DT turn back the clock on our brave, trans soldiers. #RISEUP.”

Ike Barinholtz conveyed, “Every single trans person is braver than Donald Trump.” Ethan Embry expressed, “Wow. That’s up there with one of the worst things you’ve ever said. And coming from you that’s impressive.” And Judd Apatow warned, “One by one he will f**k over every segment of the population he made a promise to except Russia, bankers and big oil.Get ready-you’re next.”

Jesse Tyler Ferguson wrote, “Sending a message that hate & discrimination should be tolerated if it saves us money. A shameful yet unsurprising new low.#EqualityForAll.” James Corden tweeted, “Hey Ivanka, James here. Hope all is good, quick question, can you… Erm… Call your dad and have a talk. X.” And in reference to the acronym LGBTQ, Seth Rogen quipped, “I’m starting to think they don’t know what these letters actually stand for.”

Demi Lovato expressed, “I just want to tell the transgender community that I love you and you ARE supported no matter what.#ProtectTransTroops.” Billy Eichner offered, “I hope deep down Trump voters realize the increasing amount of psychological & perhaps even physical damage they’ve done to fellow Americans.” Alan Cumming asked, “And who will he come for next?” And Busy Philipps said, “Oh, just a reminder that this–NONE OF THIS IS NORMAL.”

Ellen DeGeneres insisted, “We should be grateful to the people who wish to serve, not turn our backs on them. Banning transgender people is hurtful, baseless and wrong.” Anna Paquin said, “Government sanctioned discrimination is terrifying on so many levels #transrightsarehumanrights Who will be next on the hit list?” Emmy Rossum tweeted, “Remember when he claimed he’d be ‘the most LBGT friendly President ever’… (couldn’t even get the letters in the right order). Now THIS.” Meanwhile, Will Arnett called Trump a “bigot,” while St. Vincent referred to the president as an “odious ogre.”

Katy Perry professed, “ALL those who defend our right to live freely should be able to serve freely! There are THOUSANDS currently serving! #ProtectTransTroops.” Jim Norton told Trump, “I was never brave enough to serve in the military. And neither were you. It’s disgusting to ban a group of people who are.” And Russell Simmons offered, “I proudly stand with all transgender people. Bigotry has no place in our country.”
