Sean Spicer made a surprise appearance during Stephen Colbert’s opening monologue at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards, but the unexpected cameo is getting a mixed reaction from celebrities on Twitter. See below what Hollywood stars are tweeting about the former White House press secretary’s Emmys bit.

As Gossip Cop reported, Spicer unexpectedly came out on stage on a podium during Colbert’s Emmy Awards monologue after the host asked if anyone knew how large this year’s audience would be. The former press secretary declared, “This will be the largest audience to witness the Emmys, period. Both in person and around the world.” Colbert responded, “Wow, that really soothes my fragile ego. I can understand why you’d want one of these guys around.” The host then joked, “Melissa McCarthy everybody. Give it up.” Of course, the comedic actress famously impersonated Spicer on “Saturday Night Live” last season.

One celebrity weighing in on Spicer’s Emmys appearance is Ed Helms, who tweeted, “Spicey just won the Emmy for best joke about Whitehouse integrity by a Whitehouse Press Secretary.” An unamused Kal Penn argued, “@seanspicer can normalize himself in good fun, but he still passionately advocated against human rights, health care, & American values.” And Zach Braff similarly expressed, “I’m not ready to laugh ‘with’ Sean Spicer. I think he is an evil, opportunistic liar that hurt our country.”

Meanwhile, Billy Eichner tweeted from backstage at the awards ceremony, “SEAN SPICER IN THE GREEN ROOM STANDING ALONE STARING AT HIS PHONE,” to which Seth Rogen responded, “Ask him if he wants to vape.” Rogen later added, “Wish I was at the Emmys so I could have jerked off @seanspicer too!” And Jenny Slate stated, “If u think that Spicer should be allowed to participate in anything but an apology, you really dont understand anything & im bummed about you.”

Alyssa Milano said, “Happy for all the winners tonight but sad that we continue to normalize this Presidency by inviting Spicer to participate.” “Was it worth the laugh, for the cheap gag, to normalize and excuse a man who lied all day everyday for @potus?” asked Samantha Ronson. Rob Reiner contended, “DT is a sick liar. If we reward Sean Spicer for enabling his sickness, we are saying we accept a mentally ill POTUS.” And Michael Ian Black wrote, “Hollywood just tousled Sean Spicer’s hair.”

Chelsea Handler asked, “So, we are rewarding @seanspicer for lying through his teeth day after day in the name of the trump? The Republican Party? It’s not cute.” Ike Barinholtz joked, “And thats a SERIES WRAP on Sean Spicer.” And John Fugelsang quipped, “Spicer wins for Outstanding Achievement in Cuteness While Admitting You Were Lying The Entire Time.” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to Spicer’s Emmy Awards appearance, which you can watch in the video below.
