Senate Republicans voted Tuesday to proceed with the debate on repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare. Celebrities are now reacting on Twitter to the decision. See Hollywood stars’ tweets below.

The measure to move forward with healthcare repeal talks passed 51 to 50 after Vice President Mike Pence cast the tie-breaking vote. Sen. John McCain, who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer, was also present at the Senate chambers to vote in favor of nullifying the ACA, which could result in millions of Americans losing their healthcare. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also took the floor to urges members of the Senate to proceed with the debate on new legislation.

Many celebrities have taken to social media to express their outrage at the Senate’s vote. Mark Ruffalo tweeted, “Shameful day. Democracy is in cardiac arrest.” Sophia Bush wrote, “Shame on them all. Keep calling. Keep protesting. Keep showing up. They do not deserve to keep their care while they strip you of yours.” And Jaime King offered, “For every American relying on you @SenJohnMcCain you will go down in history as a cruel and unjust failure of a politician.”

Mocking McCain’s speech, Seth Meyers quipped, “My waiter just brought me soup with a fly in it but then gave a rousing speech about how flies shouldn’t be in soup. #Hero.” Cher stated, “2DAY, JULY25th, 2017, A DATE WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY, THE UNITED STATES WAS SUDDENLY & DELIBERATELY ATTACKED BY GOP PARTY, WHO KILLED HEALTHCARE.” And Eliza Dushku tweeted a frowning face emoji, while George Wallace simply stated, “Shame.”

Meanwhile, Billy Eichner expressed, “McCain has been voting against even the most basic LGBT rights for DECADES. U didn’t know he was an asshole? Well my friends & I sure did.” Josh Gad told McCain, “You have cancer. U are a ‘maverick.’ You are being treated w/ protected government health insurance. This wasn’t a tricky decision Senator.” And Debra Messing called the vote “A sad day in US History,” while Kate Walsh tweeted the hashtag “#killthebill!” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to Senate Republicans voting to proceed with the motion to repeal Obamacare.
