Celebrities are reacting on Twitter to the death of Liz Smith, the legendary gossip columnist whose self-titled column was featured in newspapers across the country for more than three decades. She was 94. See Hollywood stars’ tweets and tributes below.

Smith died Sunday in New York City of natural causes, Gossip Cop confirms. Her column, titled “Liz Smith,” began in 1976 in the New York Daily News, and was soon syndicated nationwide. The celebrity journalist, known as the “Grand Dame of Dish,” was one of the most widely read gossip columnists in the world. One of her biggest scoops included Donald Trump’s 1990 divorce from first wife Ivana Trump.

One celebrity mourning Smith is Rob Lowe, who tweeted, “Loved Liz Smith. Smart and funny. Gossip from the High Road.” James Woods wrote, “Liz Smith was the definition of a lady. She dished, but always found a way to make it entertaining and fun. #RIPLiz.” And Al Roker noted, “I was fortunate enough to work with the amazing Liz Smith. During my time at WNBC she was nothing short fabulous. Liz passed away at the age of 94 and with her, a piece New York.”

Betty Buckley expressed, “Oh, no. I loved Liz Smith so much. Deeply sad reading this. Liz Smith was such a force & great, great lady.” Harvey Fierstein tweeted, “Just heard- Liz Smith is gone. Great broad. Tough cookie. Trailblazer. And under it all, a softie. Known her for 37 years. Will miss her forever. And Sandra Bernhard said, “@LizSmth came from Texas as a bright young star she lit up NYC with a long brilliant career she was a joy to know she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”

Marlee Matlin noted, “She may have been the ‘Dame of Dish’ but she was always classy, always with a nice word for me. And each year, sent the loveliest of holiday cards. RIP Liz Smith.” Bernadette Peters simply stated, “RIP Liz Smith… The Best of the Best!” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to the death of Liz Smith.
