Senator John McCain announced Friday that he’s voting “no” on the GOP’s proposed Graham-Cassidy healthcare bill, which would repeal and replace Obamacare. Celebrities are now thanking the Republican senator on Twitter for his decision not to support the latest effort to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. See Hollywood stars’ reactions and tweets below.

“I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal,” the Arizona Senator said in a statement. “I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried. Nor could I support it without knowing how much it will cost, how it will (affect) insurance premiums, and how many people will be helped or hurt by it.” Republicans need at least 50 votes to pass the Graham-Cassidy bill, but it’s unlikely they’ll achieve that goal as a result of McCain and other senators voting “no” on the proposal.

One celebrity expressing gratitude to McCain is Jimmy Kimmel, who had attacked the bill during his talk show monologue earlier this week. The late night host tweeted, “Thank you @SenJohnMcCain for being a hero again and again and now AGAIN.” Cher offered, “Bless you @SenetorJohnMcCain. This is 3rd Time I’ve Watched You Take The High Road, & Pick The American Ppl over Politics. #StillaHero2Me.” And Zach Braff stated, “Bam.”

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Wright said, “Common sense (and a right to Trump’s jaw in the midst of a fight w/ brain cancer). Think what you will of him, but kudos. #MeetTheBullsHorns.” Lin-Manuel Miranda simply offered, “Thank you,” while Billy Eichner added, “The people have spoken! #Resist.” And Alyssa Milano wrote, “Thank you for your no vote on the Graham-Cassidy Bill, @SenJohnMcCain. Your leadership is appreciated.”

Mark Ruffalo exclaimed, “Thank you @SenJohnMcCain!” Rosie O’Donnell expressed, “first things first, you are the realest. thank u SENATOR for all you have given to this great nation.” And Rob Reiner conveyed, “John McCain-a hero once again. Hopefully this will encourage other senators to have courage and kill this abomination once and for all.”

Lena Dunham thought, “Sen. McCain’s support is a bellwether but, we need the GOP to wake up to the devastation this could cause for so many of us.” Stephen Colbert noted, “The remaining GOP senators? Totally cool with voting in bad conscience.” And Josh Gad said, “Thank you @SenJohnMcCain for doing the right thing which continues to elude so many of your colleagues. Thank you. Sincerely.” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to McCain’s decision not to support the Graham-Cassidy bill.
