As Gossip Cop reported, members of the Senate questioned Sessions about Russia possibly interfering in the 2016 presidential election. The former Alabama senator was also asked about his meetings with Russian officials during President Donald Trump’s campaign, his role in the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, and more pressing topics.

Shortly before the hearing, Mark Ruffalo tweeted, “We all know #Sessions will be lying today. The real issue is what the GOP is doing on Healthcare that we need to be watching.” Once the proceednings started, Rosie O’Donnell offered, “jeff sessions -so how many elves fit in the hollow tree – r u a racist – u lied last time – r u gonna lie again – u look caught jeff #resist.” And Andy Cohen joked, “Is #JeffSessions auditioning for Real Housewives of Beverly Hills?”

George Takei said, “Kind of wishing SNL had new episodes over the summer right about now.” In regard to the attorney general dodging questions, Jeffrey Wright quipped, “I’d think #JeffSessions middle name is ‘I Don’t Recall’ but there was no Confederate General of that name.” And Don Cheadle also noted that Sessions claimed not to recall many of his conversations with President Donald Trump, then added, “He sure seems to remember a lot of the Comey stuff though doesn’t he?”

Chelsea Handler joked, “2014: Can’t wait to watch the Super Bowl! 2017: Can’t wait to watch this old white guy testify on C-SPAN! #SessionsHearing.” Debra Messing accused both John McCain and Richard Burr of “interrupting Senator [Kamala] Harris during her questioning!” And Alyssa Milano simply tweeted, “#sessionsresign.”

However, there were also some famous conservatives defending the attorney general. In reference to Sessions’ predecessor, Ann Coulter said, “A good day to remind everyone that AG Eric Holder ran guns to Mexico, lied to Congress about it, was found in contempt & never prosecuted.” Jedediah Bila directly responded to the comment by writing, “(media silence).” Meanwhile, Bill O’Reilly continuously supported the attorney general’s testimony while live tweeting his analysis of the hearing. Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to Sessions’ Senate hearing.
