Jay Thomas, the actor best known for his roles on the classic sitcoms “Murphy Brown” and “Cheers,” has died following a battle with cancer. He was 69. Celebrities are now reacting to his death on Twitter. See Hollywood stars’ tweets and tributes below.

Thomas’ passing was announced Thursday by his agent, who said in a statement, “Jay was one of a kind, never at a loss for words and filled with so much fun and wonderfully whacky thoughts and behavior.” The actor died at his California home with his wife and three sons by his side.

In addition to “Cheers” and “Murphy Brown,” for which Thomas won two Emmy Awards, he also starred on his own sitcom, “Love & War,” from 1992-1995. The actor was also well known for his regular appearances on “Late Night With David Letterman,” and most recently hosted “The Jay Thomas Show” on SiriusXM.

One celebrity reacting to Thomas’ death is Rob Lowe‏, who noted, “Had the pleasure of casting and directing Jay Thomas many years ago. He was fantastic, an underrated dramatic actor. And a great guy.” Jane Lynch‏ wrote, “Loved this guy. What a sad loss.” And Tom Arnold‏ expressed, “I love Jay Thomas. Many unscripted inappropriate laughs everytime we worked together. My thoughts today are with his beloved family. #RIP.”

Meanwhile, Jake Tapper‏ said, “RIP Jay Thomas, comic actor from ‘Mork & Mindy,’ ‘Cheers,’ ‘Murphy Brown’ and more.” Joe Mantegna recalled, “I worked with Jay Thomas on Joan of Arcadia and he was a great guy and good actor. My thoughts and prayers are with his family today.” And Dean Cain tweeted, “RIP Jay Thomas. A funny man. A good man.”

Bryan Cranston wrote, “I’m sad that @realjaythomas passed today. We acted together twice. So damn funny…& Loud. Rest quietly now my friend.” Carson Daly shared, “I heard #JayThomas every am on @Power106LA growing up in LA. Huge inspiration as a DJ. Very nice guy. Praying for his family.
