Celebrity Reactions: Driver Mows Down Pedestrians On New York City Bike Path

Celebrities are reacting on Twitter to a driver mowing down pedestrians in New York City. At least eight people were killed and several more injured in the horrific attack. Hollywood stars are now expressing their thoughts and prayers to the victims. See tweets below.

On Tuesday afternoon, a truck entered the pedestrian bike path on the West Side Highway in downtown Manhattan, hitting multiple people. There were also reports that the driver fired gunshots from the vehicle, but that’s yet to confirmed. Police shot the suspect in the leg after he got out of the truck, and he’s now in custody. The incident is currently being investigated as a terrorist attack.

One celebrity reacting to the tragic events is Lauren Graham who wrote, “I’m in NY and safe, but so, so upset for this city I love and the people affected.” Jesse Tyler Ferguson tweeted, “Horrified by this news coming out of NYC,” to which Jane Lynch replied, “I am too, brother.” And Ivanka Trump added, “Heartbreaking news coming out of NYC. Praying for the victims,” while William Shatner noted, “This news is so horrible on a day like today that is meant for children.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda urged, “Stay safe, NYC.” “Sending love to NYC. hug your friends,” suggested Samantha Ronson. Sarah Hyland echoed, “Stay safe New Yorkers.” Billy Eichner offered, “This is sad and horrifying. Sending love to everyone there.” Melania Trump said, “My heart breaks for #NYC today. Thoughts & prayers as we monitor the situation.” And Katie Couric stated, “This is horrible,” while Josh Gad added, “Oh God. Just read about NYC attack. I can’t stomach this non-stop senseless hatred and violence. So sad for the city and all those affected.”

Marlee Matlin tweeted, “I am safe in #NewYorkCity but saddened by the horrific events that took place just a few miles from here. Terrorism will never defeat us.” Ashley Benson‏ expressed, “So scary that this happened so close to me in a city that I love.” Donald Trump shared, “In NYC, looks like another attack by a very sick and deranged person. Law enforcement is following this closely. NOT IN THE U.S.A.!” Meghan McCain, who recently relocated to New York, said, “I am absolutely heartbroken and shocked. There is very real evil in this world. My prayers are with all fellow New Yorkers tonight.”

Susan Sarandon expressed, “Horrified & saddened by the attack in my City today. Prayers for those lost & those recovering. Thx to 1st responders & all those helping.” Will Arnett simply stated, “I [heart emoji] NY.” Meanwhile, Jared Leto offered, “Sending love to NYC on this tragic + heartbreaking day.” “Jesus the world is a scary place right now,” added Bethenny Frankel. Jedediah Bila‏ wrote, “Passed the scene of the NYC terrorist attack maybe 5 minutes before it happened. So awful. This evil has to stop.” Ryan Seacrest shared, “My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones today in NYC. Such a cowardly act.”

“Michelle and I are thinking of the victims of today’s attack in NYC and everyone who keeps us safe. New Yorkers are as tough as they come,” posted Barack Obama. Zoe Saldana revealed, “My heart is broken. Sending prayers to all the victims who’s lives were taken today in NYC.” Barbra Streisand tweeted, “New York City… my hometown… you’re in my thoughts and prayers.” Ellen DeGeneres wrote, “I [heart emoji] NY.” “Glad New York Halloween parade is continuing. Go be fabulous, NYC,” said Michael Ian Black. Bill Clinton said, “New Yorkers see this attack for what it is—an attempt to sow fear. We stand against terror as we grieve for the victims and thank the @NYPD.”

“Just left my home NYC this afternoon before the horrific attack. Thinking about the victims. Thankful for the NYPD & first responders,” tweeted Emmy Rossum. John Legend offered, “Sending love to the people of New York. I will always [love] NY.” Hailey Baldwin posted, “Heartbroken for NYC today. Sending all my love back home, my mind and my heart is with you today.” Elijah Wood expressed, “Thoughts and love with New York.” And George Takei told followers, “Thinking of my friends in NYC tonight. So grateful for the incredible heroism of the first responders on the scene of this terrible attack.”

Hillary Clinton, a former New York senator, said, “New York’s resilience is stronger than a cowardly act of terror. Thinking of the victims, their families, & the responders who saved lives.” Lena Dunham commented, “Just landed in New York to the news heart[broken]. Please stay safe out on the town tonight. Love to all my five borough friends.” Mark Ruffalo wrote, “Love to all my brother and sister New Yorkers on this tragic day. You are the best people in the best city in the world. We don’t let hate nor intolerance nor bigotry nor terrorism take away our love of life and sense of unity. #NYSTRONG.” Common also tweeted, “Always #NYCStrong. I love the people of New York. My heart breaks for the people impacted by today’s attack.”

Additionally, Josh Groban revealed he was in the area at the time of the attack and chronicled what he witnessed in a series of tweets. The singer wrote, “Oh my god I just heard gun shots and ran with my dog. Downtown. [Expletive]… I hope everyone’s ok. Was half a block from me, didn’t see it but heard 8-10 quick rounds fired off. Be safe with your kids out there.” He further shared, “I’m shaking. That’s the corner I was supposed to have my coffee but my dog pulled me into the park half a block away 10 min before shooting,” before adding, “Once I got far enough away I took this video of the quick response from our amazing NYPD and NYFD.” Gossip Cop will continue to update as we learn more about the act of terror and as celebrities share their reactions.
