President Donald Trump has decided to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, known as DACA. The program, which was put in place by the Obama administration, grants work permits and protection from deportation to illegal immigrants who arrived in the United States as children. Celebrities are now reacting on Twitter to Trump’s decision. See Hollywood stars’ tweets below.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced on Trump’s behalf Tuesday that the DACA program is “being rescinded.” Congress, however, has a six-month window to find a legislative solution. Nearly 800,000 immigrants, dubbed Dreamers, are currently enrolled in the DACA program. If Congress is unable to save the program or come up with a replacement, the lives of all those benefiting from the initiative would be upended.

One celebrity weighing in on the president’s decision is Chelsea Handler, who offered, “Trump has no clue what he’s doing… with DACA, with any American values. He needs to be replaced with someone who does.” She added, “Welcome to the land of Kim Jun Trump.” Lin-Manuel Miranda expressed, “Okay. The Bad Man continues to do bad. Your move, Congress.” And Russell Simmons tweeted, “Presidents lead with compassion, not cowardly fear. #DefendDREAMers.”

John Fugelsang wrote, “Sessions, who twice lied under oath to Congress; and DT, who paid $25 mil for fraud against US citizens, excited to punish ‘illegals.'” Yvette Nicole Brown said, “That that horrible man chooses to rescind #DACA two weeks after calling the KKK & Nazis ‘fine people’ tells you all you need to know. #SMDH,” to which Gabrielle Union responded, “Yup. This.” And Mia Farrow noted, “Expelling 800,000 kids who grew up in America is wrong, cruel, sickening.”

Kristen Bell stated, “This administration is not representing American values. They are failing us, and our forefathers would be ashamed.” Judd Apatow asked, “What would Trump do to a Transgender, DACA child who wants to take down racist monuments and believes in global warming? The stockade?” And Karrueche Tran simply tweeted the hashtag “#DefendDACA.”

Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo called the decision, “A cowardly act by a cruel, vindictive and heartless administration intent on tearing at the very fabric of the American dream. #shame.” Jeffrey Wright conveyed, “No compromise from these people. No room at the inn. Awful, pinched, embittered people with zero imagination.” And Josh Gad expressed, “America is barreling down a very ugly path right now. How many people must be blocked, deported & banned before we say enough?”

Moby said, “It’s so heartbreaking that the 800,000 #dreamers are being used as a political football by #trump and his racist #republican supporters.” George Takei argued, “Jeff Sessions says ‘We are people of compassion’ while announcing the end of DACA!? The American people are, sir, you and your boss are not.” And Connie Britton asserted, “Cowardly. Callous. Disgusting. This is not who we are. #defendDACA.”

Additionally, Michael Moore declared, “To the streets! Find out where the DACA protest is where u live and SHOW UP! If we are ever to be a decent country, this is your moment.” And Octavia Spencer tweeted the hashtag “#DefendDREAMers,” while Kerry Washington offered the hashtag “#DefendDACA.”

Elizabeth Banks expressed, “Spent the morning angry. Cooler head on now. Need to say (almost just inserted a lot of profanity) I love you #Dreamers I will #DefendDACA.” John Mayer wrote, “I hope that by the time I have to explain Trump to my kids, they’ll never have a frame of reference to understand how bad he really was.” And Larry King said, “Disappointed by @POTUS’ decision to end #DACA. Punishing someone for the sins of their parents seems very UNAmerican.”

Kesha noted, “I stand with the DREAMers! We are a country of immigrants built on dreams. We are all dreamers searching for the truth!” And America Ferrera stated, “Dreamers- you have led your own movement from the start w/ courage, dignity & beauty. I feel privileged to follow & stand w/you #HereToStay.” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to the Trump administration deciding to end DACA.
