Celebrities are reacting to a number of NASCAR owners threatening to fire drivers who protest during the National Anthem. See Hollywood stars’ reactions and tweets below.

As Gossip Cop reported, hundreds of NFL players kneeled and locked arms during the National Anthem before their games on Sunday in a show of unity against remarks made by Donald Trump over the weekend. As it was widely reported, the president tweeted on Saturday, “A player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect… our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOU’RE FIRED.”

On Monday, numerous NASCAR owners spoke out against the protests in the NFL, seemingly supporting Trump. Former driver and current owner Richard Petty said, “Anybody that don’t stand up for the anthem oughta be out of the country. What got ’em where they’re at? The United States.” Additionally, owner Richard Childress said that any driver or crew member who attempts to protest will “get [them] a ride on a Greyhound bus.” In response to their comments, the president later tweeted, “So proud of NASCAR and its supporters and fans. They won’t put up with disrespecting our Country or our Flag – they said it loud and clear!”

Race car legend Dale Earnhardt Jr., however, disagreed with Trump’s remarks and the threats made from several NASCAR team owners. Quoting former President John F. Kennedy, he wrote in a tweet on Monday, “All Americans R granted rights 2 peaceful protests. Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable – JFK.” Of course, other celebrities are also voicing their opinions on social media.

One star weighing in on the controversial topic is Arsenio Hall, who said, “Like Trump, white men who drive race cars, will not understand. Cops don’t ask them for a license, and then shoot them in their race car.” Zach Braff wrote, “The Mad King is tweeting about NASCAR! Send the Navy to Puerto Rico. People are dying!!!!” And James Woods tweeted, “‘It’ll get you a ride on a Greyhound bus,’ – Richard Childress, when asked what would happen if a #NASCAR driver disrespected the flag.” He added, “It’s this simple: they can kneel, sit, or spit during the national anthem. We can accept it or boycott it. Everybody has a choice. #America.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump Jr. came out in support of the NASCAR owners and his father, writing, “Well played #NASCAR, well played! #America.” Gossip Cop will continue to update as more celebrities react to NASCAR owners threatening to fire drivers who protest during the National Anthem.
