Celebrities are reacting to Vice President Mike Pence leaving Sunday’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers after several players kneeled during the National Anthem. The former governor of Indiana, along with his wife Karen, were slated to watch the game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, but after players from the 49ers took a knee in protest during the Star-Spangled Banner, Pence decided to walk out and voice his outrage. Now, a number of Hollywood stars are sharing their reactions to the vice president’s exit.

Following his departure, Pence fired off a series of tweets in which he wrote, “I left today’s Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem.” He added, “At a time when so many Americans are inspiring our nation with their courage, resolve, and resilience, now, more than ever, we should rally around our Flag and everything that unites us.” Pence concluded, “While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I don’t think it’s too much to ask NFL players to respect the Flag and our National Anthem. I stand with @POTUS Trump, I stand with our soldiers, and I will always stand for our Flag and our National Anthem.”

In response, Andy Cohen simply wrote sarcastically, “Ok sweetie.” Meanwhile, Josh Gad tweeted, “He’ll stand behind a man who grabs women by the pussy, dodged the draft, was accused of rape, & is coaxing a nuclear war, but this is 2 much.” Zach Braff noted, “So you… wait for it… protested.” And Tom Arnold mocked, “The same @potus that dodged the draft 5 times? Nice work little Mike.”

Kathy Griffin snarked, “Gurrrrl, nobody asked you. Go on. Get yourself to the bathhouse. Jeff Sessions is waiting.” Pointing out that many players are actually taking a knee to protest racial injustice and alleged police brutality, Ed Helms tweeted, “You’d be making a really good point if that’s why they were kneeling. But it’s not why they were kneeling. So you’re making a fake point.” “Hi @VP Mike Pence, Nazis marched again yesterday in Virginia. Yeah, they killed a woman last time out & maimed folks. But those knees, right?” offered Jeffrey Wright.

Stephen King theorized, “Pence leaving the stadium was pre-planned. It was a fund-raising gimmick.” John Cusack similarly offered, “Only staged in the literal sense – ie totaly pre planed race baiting political stunt – ;) how dumb do they suppose we are.” George Takei quipped, “We’re rather used to Pence doing everything for show. I suppose his marriage might also qualify.” And Henry Winkler conveyed, “Mother Pence should tell her boy that his disgust is better directed at the Nazis in Charlottesville RATHER than football players.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump chimed in, “I asked @VP Pence to leave stadium if any players kneeled, disrespecting our country. I am proud of him and @SecondLady Karen.” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities share their reactions to Vice President Pence walking out of an NFL game because some football player kneeled during the National Anthem.
