President Donald Trump said on Monday that the Texas shooting was caused by a “mental health problem,” not an issue with U.S. gun control laws. Celebrities are now reacting to the president’s response to the mass shooting. See stars’ tweets below.

As Gossip Cop reported, a shooting at a church in Texas left more than two dozen dead and even more injured on Sunday morning after a gunman opened fire inside the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs. But during a news conference in Tokyo on Monday, the president blamed the deadliest attack in Texas history on the mental health of the shooter. “This isn’t a guns situation. This is a mental health problem at the highest level. It’s a very, very sad event, but that’s the way I view it,” Trump said. He later referred to the gunman, who was identified as 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley, as a “very deranged individual.”

One celebrity weighing in on Trump’s response to the mass shooting is Evan Rachel Wood, who tweeted, “Don’t just yell #guncontrol or #2ndamendment. Start thinking of actual solutions.” She added, “If we can’t get rid of all of them, then start thinking of ideas for better gun laws. Criminal record = no guns. Mentally unfit = no guns.” Judd Apatow said, “It’s such an obvious set up for a joke. Not even worth it. And he is cutting money for mental health and is against background checks.” And George Takei wrote, “Trump says shooting in TX was about ‘mental health.’ No. It’s about assault weapons, which under GOP bill, the mentally ill easily can buy.”

John Cusack offered, “He is the mental health issue #25thAmemdmentNow,” while Rosie O’Donnell echoed, “trump is mentally ill.” Ron Perlman similarly asserted, “And if anybody knows mental health problems…” Piers Morgan wrote, “Trump blames mental illness for gun violence, which is why he made it easier for mentally ill people to buy guns.” And Alyssa Milano retweeted a February 2017 NBC News article with the headline, “Trump Signs Bill Revoking Obama-Era Gun Checks for People With Mental Illnesses.” Gossip Cop will continue to update as more celebrities react to Trump blaming mental health issues for the Texas shooting.
