Celebrities are reacting to Donald Trump allegedly telling Sergeant La David Johnson’s grieving widow that “he knew what he signed up for.” See stars’ reaction tweets below.

Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, who was riding in a limousine with the soldier’s widow to meet the casket at Miami International Airport on Tuesday, claimed she overheard the President’s call. “Basically he said, ‘Well I guess he knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurts’,” she told CNN on Wednesday morning. In response to Wilson’s comments, Trump later denied on Twitter that he told the widow of a soldier killed in an ambush in Niger that “he knew what he signed up for.”

He wrote, “Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!” Responding to the president’s tweet, Wilson said, “I have proof, too. This man is a sick man.” She went on to add that Johnson’s widow, Myeshia, “broke down” after hearing Trump’s insensitive comments.

One celebrity weighing in on the situation is Olivia Wilde, who said, “You, @realDonaldTrump, are a worthless, pathetic man. Everyone else: donate to help this brave man’s family.” Rosie O’Donnell simply shared, “Donald Trump is a cruel bastard.” Chelsea Handler wrote, “You don’t have proof of anything except you lying repeatedly on camera every time you speak. You shouldn’t be allowed to talk at all.” Snoop Dogg commented, “Sad. My prayers go out to the family.” When a former Obama staffer tweeted, “Who to believe, the mother of a fallen soldier or someone who’s been caught in literally hundreds of lies?” Julia Louis-Dreyfus responded, “Exactly.”

“Proof? That would be so great to see/hear. When will you be sharing it with your fellow Amercans? #MAGA,” Don Cheadle tweeted to Trump. Meanwhile, Alyssa Milano angrily tweeted, “Which is more disrespectful to our military? A) Exercising our right to peacefully protest during the National Anthem?! B) Telling Sergeant La David Johnson’s grieving widow that he ‘knew what he signed up for’ C) Being a president that clearly doesn’t know what he signed up for.” She added, “Pop quiz, @realDonaldTrump!” Sarah Silverman argued, “Kneeling at a football game has nothing to do w disrespecting our military — THIS — this has EVERYTHING to do w it.”

Tom Bergeron observed, “#HeKnewWhatHeSignedUpFor is trending thanks to President Convenient Bone Spurs.” Sophia Bush also said, “A leader does not behave like this… deplorable.” And Judd Apatow remarked, “When a man can’t empathize how can he make decisions which effect all of us? He is only interested in himself. Pure narcissism.” Gossip Cop will continue to update as more stars react to president Trump telling a fallen solider’s widow that “he knew what he signed up for.”
