Celebrities are reacting to a new report saying President Donald Trump once joked that Vice President Mike Pence “wants to hang” all gay people. See below Hollywood stars’ tweets and reactions to the controversial barb.

On Monday, The New Yorker published a profile on Pence, which quotes a “staff member from Trump’s campaign” recalling him mocking the vice president’s stance toward the LGBTQ community. The article says that during a meeting with a legal scholar, who brought up gay rights, “Trump motioned toward Pence and joked, ‘Don’t ask that guy – he wants to hang them all!'” According to the White House associate, the president has also derided Pence’s staunch religious beliefs and views on abortion.

One celebrity reacting to Trump’s joke about the vice president hanging gay people is George Takei, who wrote, “Not sure what’s more disturbing, that Donald would joke about such a thing or that he would pick a man with these views as his number 2.” Jack Antonoff said, “a lot of fatigue going on but trump joking about pence hanging gay people is beyond. impeach.” And Rosie O’Donnell declared, “HE IS INSANE – HE IS A PATHOLOGICAL LIAR.”

“Thing I’m most looking forward to this week is Mike Pence responding to whether he wants to hang all gay people,” quipped Michael Ian Black. Ike Barinholtz retweeted The New Yorker story and added, “Here’s our president making a funny joke to our vice president about how much he hates gay people and wants to hang them.” And seemingly suggesting that Trump should be further investigated by journalists, Debra Messing offered, “Ok @nytimes @washingtonpost @NBCNightlyNews @CBSNews @ABC @MSNBC @CNN DO YOUR JOBS.”

Meanwhile, Billy Eichner expressed, “The President of the United States saying that our Vice President would love to hang all gay people. Evil pieces of [expletive].” Josh Groban incredulously asked, “What the [expletive].” Eliza Dushku declared, “Utter disgrace. Absolutely sickening.” And Chelsea Clinton wrote, “In 2017, we have to remind our President that it’s never ok to ‘joke’ about killing LGBTQ Americans… or anyone.” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to Trump joking about Pence wanting to hang gay people.
