Celebrities are reacting to Australia voting “yes” to same-sex marriage. The news was announced on Wednesday morning Australia time. After a long drawn out process, 61 percent of voters were in favor of marriage equality, while 38 percent voted against it. Australia’s Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull told reporters following the announcement, “They voted ‘yes’ for fairness, they voted ‘yes’ for commitment, they voted ‘yes’ for love. And now it is up to us here in the Parliament of Australia to get on with it.” Turnbull said he was going to push for same-sex marriage becoming legal by Christmas. Quickly, the hashtags #MarriageEquality and #Australia became trending topics on Twitter.

Ellen DeGeneres tweeted, “It’s a g’day. Way to go Australia. #MarriageEquality.” James Corden shared, “Good work Australia! Good work indeed.” And Zach Braff expressed, “Congrats Australia,” alongside a photo of him and Donald Faison in a Jacuzzi. Josh Gad, who’s currently Down Under, wrote, “So honored to be in your beautiful country #Australia as you take this historic step. Congratulations!”

Nick Jonas exclaimed, “Yes Australia!” Stephen Fry added, “Whoop! Congratulations, #Australia!” “62% Yes 38% No Congrats Australia for giving us hope in humanity again!” expressed Lance Bass. Adam Lambert tweeted, “Wooohoooo marriage equality in Australia!” Sia said, “The Australian people have spoken loud and clear. #LoveIsLove.” Ashley Tisdale wrote, “Australia knows what’s up! #MarriageEquality.
