Celebrities are reacting to Sen. Al Franken being accused of groping and kissing radio host Leeann Tweeden without her consent during a 2006 USO Tour. See below what Hollywood stars are tweeting in response to the sexual assault allegations.

Tweeden, a news anchor for Los Angeles radio station KABC, wrote an essay Thursday detailing an encounter with Franken during a December 2006 USO Tour in Afghanistan, two years before the former “Saturday Night Live” writer and performer was elected to the U.S. Senate. The radio personality said Franken had written a USO skit featuring a kissing scene between the two, and repeatedly insisted they “rehearse the kiss” backstage, despite her protests. Tweeden said that when she eventually relented, Franken “put his hand on the back of my head, mashed his lips against mine and aggressively stuck his tongue in my mouth.”

Tweeden also stated that Franken groped her after she fell asleep on an Army transport plane on their way home from the tour, and shared a photo of the incident (see below). The senator later said in a statement, “I certainly don’t remember the rehearsal for the skit in the same way, but I send my sincerest apologies to Leeann. As to the photo, it was clearly intended to be funny but wasn’t. I shouldn’t have done it.”

One celebrity weighing in on the controversy is Mark Ruffalo, who said, “This is not acceptable. Not from anybody. Dem or Republican.” Alyssa Milano stated, “Zero tolerance. If we don’t hold all accountable for horrible behavior — nothing changes. Sorry, @SenAlFranken you should not be in a position to represent the female constituents in your state.” And Terry Crews, who recently revealed he’s also been a victim of sexual assault, offered, “Amazing courage. @alfranken must be held accountable. Stay strong.”

Tom Arnold wrote, “You know I [love] you & believe you @LeeannTweeden Wish i could’ve been there to protect you. I’m sorry but proud of you.” And Kathy Griffin noted, “I’ve done this exact tour. Not w Al, but same singer, same aircraft etc. Yes, it’s a war zone & heightened atmosphere. Verrrry boys club, but this is WAY wrong. Not a dem/rep issue. Minn should get a kick ass dem to replace him. No slut shaming here, Leeann.”

Meanwhile, Gabrielle Union asked, “And sexually assaulting a sleeping woman is funny how? Who thinks that shit is funny?” Michael Ian Black bluntly expressed, “F***ing hell.” Kumail Nanjiani similarly tweeted, “Al Franken. F***.” And And Andy Richer sighed, “Goddamnit, Al… S*** like this was never funny. Ppl may have laughed, someone may have gleefully snapped that pic, but this s*** was NEVER funny to women.”

Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to Tweeden’s sexual assault allegations against the senator. As we noted earlier, “The View” co-hosts also reacted to the sexual assault claims against Franken on Thursday’s show. See below the photo shared by Tweeden.
