Sean Spicer resigned as Donald Trump’s press secretary on Friday, and now celebrities are reacting to the news. See reaction tweets from stars below.

Spicer’s run as Trump’s inaugural press secretary started on the wrong foot almost immediately when he gave the press a factually inaccurate statement and refused to take questions one day after the inauguration in January. Since then, he has been accused of being combative with a number of journalists in the briefing room, and has also made a few flubs. He was also sometimes contradicted by Trump himself. In the last month, however, the Trump administration broke precedent by deciding to hold its daily briefings off-camera, and Spicer wasn’t a part of many of them.

To be fair, while press secretary, he was also overseeing the entire White House communications office, which was without a director. Many thought he might eventually give up the secretary role to fully head up the department. But on Friday morning, exactly six months following that controversial start, Spicer tendered his resignation after voicing his objection to Trump appointing financier Anthony Scaramucci as communications director.

As the news broke, Rosie Perez tweeted, “Oh snap! With all the trash talking about #SeanSpicer (kind of warranted) funny how he’s the one who stood up to #Trump. Unlike #Sessions.” Arsenio Hall wrote, “Sean Spicer just resigned! I hope they replace him with someone who looks like him. Cause I’m addicted to Melissa McCarthy’s impression.” Patton Oswalt jokingly sang, “Seems to me You did your job Like a, uh, something that would be, um. I’m sorry. The wind? Next question?” Albert Brooks cracked, “BREAKING: Sean Spicer out. Melissa McCarthy devastated.”

“Dear @SeanSpicer Please write a book. Immediately,” Jimmy Kimmel wrote. Andy Cohen said, “hey Sean Spicer – LET’S PARTY!” Zach Braff quipped, “Can’t wait to see Sean Spicer waltz on Dancing With the Stars.” He went on to add, “Spicey was fine lying every day, but a new boss crossed his red line. #SpicerOnDancingWithTheStars.” Chris Harrison joked, “Excited to announce Sean Spicer will replace Jorge on #BachelorinParadise this summer. And Stephen Colbert tweeted more seriously, “Words fail me. And they failed him, too.”

Samantha Ronson wondered, “What kind of sh*t storm could possibly be boiling over that @seanspicer finally resigned?” Kate Walsh begged, “Can @melissamccarthy replace him??” Judd Apatow asked, “Will people start bailing as they should? Will anyone reclaim their integrity?” Margaret Cho shared a gif of Spicer as Homer Simpson retreating into bushes, writing, “SEAN SPICER OUT.” Meanwhile, David Arquette observed, “For a president that claims to be all about loyalty he sure doesn’t practice it.”

Beau Willimon said, “Trump will fire, alienate, betray every person on his team until he’s the last man cuffed. Took Sean Spicer a minute to figure this out.” To that, Don Cheadle sarcastically replied, “But… but I fell on every sword. Died on every hill. Regurgitated every lie. Shouldered all the ridicule. Suckled at your tweets…” Chelsea Handler posted, “I’m going to miss you my spicy little baked potato. @seanspicer.” John Stamos shared an old photo of himself in a briefing room, joking, “First day on the job. How am I doing? (I’m a little nervous) #Spicey #Mild.”

Minka Kelly retweeted activist Michael Skolnik, who tweeted, “When the ship is sinking, people start to jump off the boat. Two resignations in two days. Tick, Tock, Trump.” And Will Arnett retweeted New York Times reporter Michael Schmidt, who posted, “Interesting that given everything that has gone on Scaramucci was Spicer’s red line.” As for Spicer himself, he wrote on Twitter, “It’s been an honor & a privilege to serve @POTUS @realDonaldTrump & this amazing country. I will continue my service through August.” See CNN video about the major shakeup below.
