White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer compared Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Adolf Hitler on Tuesday, but claimed that the German dictator “didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons.” Celebrities are now reacting on Twitter to the inaccurate comment. See Hollywood stars’ tweets below.

Of course, the Nazis gassed millions of Jews in concentration camps during the Holocaust, but Spicer later tried to clarify his remarks by saying that Hitler “was not using the gas on his own people the same way Assad used them.” He further backtracked by saying he was trying to distinguish between Assad “using airplanes to drop chemical weapons on population centers,” as opposed to Hitler, who “brought them into the Holocaust centers.”

Among the celebrities denouncing Spicer’s comments is Josh Gad, who wrote, “Good to know. I’ll remember that when recollecting the names of my family members who were all sent to gas chambers.” Kathy Griffin said, “Sean!!!! Hitler joke??? Cmon, roadhack stand up rule #1… OH! U WERENT JOKING?” And Zach Braff tweeted, “This is not a smart man. I hope we can at least all agree on that.”

Additionally, John Fugelsang quipped, “Sean Spicer, who thinks Zyklon B was aromatherapy.” Chelsea Handler asked, Is a ‘holocaust center’ a dejewing center? Like when Mike Pence can turn you un-gay? What a sh*t-show.” And George Wallace tweeted, “Someone please send Sean Spicer a Holocaust coloring book or some sh*t. Something more his level and whatnot.”

Debra Messing retweeted an article with the headline, “Anne Frank Center calls for Spicer to be fired,” and added, “THIS MUST HAPPEN.” Marlee Matlin expressed, “How sad and offensive at the same time when an administration spokesperson doesn’t know facts related to the Holocaust.” Barbra Streisand insisted, “Sean Spicer should be fired for saying Hitler did not use chemical weapons on ‘his own people.’ You mean 6 million Jews don’t count?”

Meanwhile, Rosie O’Donnell noted that Spicer’s remarks were made “on passover no less,” while Don Cheadle added, “It boggles the mind.” Chelsea Clinton offered, “I hope @PressSec takes time to visit @HolocaustMuseum. It’s a few blocks away.” Dan Rather said, “I do not see how Sean Spicer can be allowed to continue in his current position.” And Alyssa Milano repeatedly tweeted the hashtag “#FireSpicer.”
