Celebrities are reacting to President Trump naming Neil Gorsuch as his nominee for Supreme Court Justice. See stars’ reaction tweets below.

As Gossip Cop has reported, there has been a vacancy on the Supreme Court of the United States since the death of Justice Antonin Scalia nearly a year ago. President Obama named Judge Merrick Garland to replace him, but a confirmation hearing was never held. Now that Trump is president, it is up to him to fill the open spot.

He began teasing a primetime TV announcement on Monday, and shortly before naming his pick on Tuesday night, the president tweeted, “Getting ready to deliver a VERY IMPORTANT DECISION! 8:00 P.M.” As expected, during the press conference, Trump revealed he had selected Gorsuch, from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in Colorado.

But even before the president stepped up to the podium in the East Room, the way he was turned the announcement into a television event was not sitting well with some celebs. Arsenio Hall, who won “Celebrity Apprentice” in 2012, tweeted, “Trump is about to announce his pick for a Supreme Court Judge, but it looks a lot more like what you and I went through on @nbc @clayaiken!” Joss Whedon asked followers, “We’re all not watching Trump tonight, right?”

Billy Eichner wrote in reply to Trump’s aforementioned tweet, “You are so f*cking embarrassing my God.” He went on to write, “No matter who u choose we will NOT forget about your #MuslimBan & we still DEMAND to see what ur HIDING in your taxes.” Referencing a former “Apprentice” contestant and a current White House staffer, Zach Braff joked with the prayer hands emoji, “‏Please be @OMAROSA.” After Trump formally named Gorsuch, Eichner cracked, “Once again Amy Adams is snubbed.”

More seriously, he went on to say, “Gorsuch is extremely anti-LGBTQ and this is a #StolenSeat that belonged to Merrick Garland.” Patton Oswalt deadpanned, “Why is ‘Gorsuch’ trending? Why the sudden interest in my D&D demi-liche necromancer character?” Chelsea Handler quipped, “Like all arch conservatives, I assume Gorsuch will be celebrating tonight on Grindr.” Stephen Colbert joked, “Trump has selected Judge Neil Gorsuch for his Supreme Court nominee. He celebrated by eating Merrick Garland’s heart.”

Sophia Bush shared a “thread” of criticism about Gorsuch as the pick, and Rosie O’Donnell said “agreed” to a Slate tweet asserting, “Neil Gorsuch shouldn’t get a hearing until Merrick Garland is seated.” Debra Messing also retweeted Paul Begala as saying, “We should no longer call this #SupremeCourt seat the ‘Scalia seat.’ Call it the Garland seat – wrongly denied him due to GOP obstruction.”

In contrast, Jedediah Bila of “The View” wrote, “Gorsuch is a great pick. Strong record, brilliant guy, great allegiance to the Constitution. Well done.” She added, “So far, lots of campaign promises being kept by @realDonaldTrump. He’s giving the people who voted for him what they asked for so far.” Chuck Woolery posted, “Judge Gorsuch. “I am honored and I am humbled. Thank you.” Now the Democrats will start the Smear. You know it’s coming.” Along similar lines, Ann Coulter tweeted, “I look at that lovely couple, Judge Gorsuch & his wife, and think about how they are about to be viciously slandered by the left.”
