Celebrities are reacting to the news John McCain was diagnosed with brain cancer. See tweets of prayer and concern from Hollywood stars below.

As Gossip Cop reported, questions about the senator’s health were raised in June when McCain seemed to struggle during the James Comey hearing. While many on Twitter mocked his confusing line of questioning, others wondered if something was actually mentally or physically wrong. McCain, however, jokingly dismissed his poor performance as being the result of staying up too late watching the Arizona Diamondbacks.

But last week, it was announced McCain needed surgery to remove a blood clot that was by his eye. Now on Wednesday, days after the operation, doctors have revealed that post-surgical testing indicated the presence of a primary glioblastoma, a type of brain tumor that’s considered aggressive. Fortunately, McCain has not suffered any neurological problems before or since this medical ordeal began, but the prognosis for such a diagnosis typically is not good. The 80-year-old former presidential candidate, who previously had melanomas removed years ago, may need a combination of chemotherapy and radiation going forward.

Now a number of celebs are sending well-wishes to McCain and his family on social media. Alyssa Milano, for instance, tweeted, “I send good thoughts, strength, light and blessings to @SenJohnMcCain and his family. A true American hero and patriot.” Arsenio Hall wrote, “#prayerretweet @SenJohnMcCain #hero.” And in all-caps, Carson Daly said, “PRAYING FOR HIS FAMILY.”

“Sending a lot of love to the McCain family. This is a beautiful statement,” tweeted Andy Cohen, sharing a posting from McCain’s daughter Meghan. Jedediah Bila also wrote to her, “Thinking of you and your family.” Marlee Matlin offered, “My prayers to @SenJohnMcCain, @CindyMccain & his family. “Praying for my friend and shipmate @SenJohnMcCain and his family,” wrote Montel Williams, while Nancy Sintra said, “Thinking of John McCain and his family tonight and wishing them strength, courage, prayers and the best of luck. @SenJohnMcCain.” Anthony Sabato Jr. also expressed, “My Thoughts & Prayers are with @SenJohnMcCain a true American hero and a fighter.” Along with a photo of herself with McCain, Rosie O’Donnell declared, “all love and prayers to this American hero.” And Maria Menounos, who had a brain tumor removed last month, tweeted, “Thought & prayers go out to @SenJohnMcCain & his family at this time. @MeghanMcCain if u need me I’m here:).”

Barack Obama tweeted about his former presidential opponent, “John McCain is an American hero & one of the bravest fighters I’ve ever known. Cancer doesn’t know what it’s up against. Give it hell, John.” Hillary Clinton said, “John McCain is as tough as they come. Thinking of John, Cindy, their wonderful children, & their whole family tonight.” Bill Clinton wrote on his own page, “As he’s shown his entire life, don’t bet against John McCain.
