John Glenn, the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth, died Thursday at the age of 95. Celebrities are now reacting to the death of the legendary spaceman. See stars’ tweets, tributes and reactions below.

Glenn, who was also a former Marine and U.S. Senator, passed away at James Cancer Hospital in Ohio after being hospitalized more than a week ago. Among the celebrities honoring the late astronaut was Piers Morgan, who tweeted, “RIP John Glenn, 95. War hero, Astronaut, Senator. A great American.” Alyssa Milano wrote, “A hero indeed. Rest In Peace.” And Michelle Rodriguez said, “Sad to hear about the passing of astronaut John Glenn. I actually got to meet him when I was to NASA Camp… yep. I went to that.”

Neil deGrasse Tyson expressed, “Aren’t many Heroes left: WWII & Korean War Fighter Pilot. Marine Colonel. NASA Astronaut. Senator. Married 73 yrs. John Glenn RIP 1921-2016.” Lewis Black offered, “Over and out John Glenn. Thanks for your dignity and bravery and for opening the universe to all of us. The heavens are now yours.” George Takei said, “This is a tragic loss. Return to the stars, American hero.” And Rascal Flatts collectively posted on their Twitter account, “So sad to hear of John Glenn’s passing. He was an American hero and we’re grateful for all he has done for our country!”

President-elect Donald Trump tweeted, “Today we lost a great pioneer of air and space in John Glenn. He was a hero and inspired generations of future explorers. He will be missed.” Katie Couric added, “So so sorry to hear about the passing of a true American hero, Senator John Glenn. I liked and respected him so much. Rest in Peace.” Larry King shared, “John Glenn’s many accomplishments flood my mind with the news of his passing. He was a remarkable man. Condolences to Annie & his family.”

Tom Hanks offered, “God speed, John Glenn.” Patton Oswalt noted, “Taking all the good ones. — 2016 #RIPJohnGlenn.” “John Glenn was the kind of American hero who’s legend will live forever.#Ohio,” said Rob Lowe. And Arsenio Hall posted on Instagram, “As an Ohio kid, he was our larger than life hero! And as an adult, I got to meet him! He didn’t disappoint. As intelligent as he was kind! #johnglenn RIP HERO.”

Back on Twitter, Bill Nye wrote, “Space exploration brings out our best. John Glenn served his country in space, in Congress, and inspired a generation. Onward, John Glenn.” Dan Rather tweeted, “John Glenn, one of the truly great explorers passed into the great unknown. May his spirit, whose restlessness expanded our horizons, RIP” “Saddened to hear of the passing of a US hero/astronaut/statesman. His courage inspired a generation to explore & serve. Godspeed John Glenn,” added Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
