Gregg Allman is dead, it was announced on Saturday. Now celebrities are mourning the death of the iconic musician. See reaction tweets and tributes below.

Allman’s passing at the age of 69 was announced in a statement on his official website and on Twitter. “It is with deep sadness we announce that Gregg Allman, a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, passed away peacefully,” said the verified tweet. On the website, the message went on, “Gregg struggled with many health issues over the past several years. During that time, Gregg considered being on the road playing music with his brothers and solo band for his beloved fans, essential medicine for his soul. Playing music lifted him up and kept him going during the toughest of times.”

Allman, who suffered from hepatitis C, had a liver transplant in 2010. He was said to be in poor health over the last few years, and canceled his 2017 performances in March as he battled cancer, but was still beloved as the co-founder of The Allman Brothers Band and a solo performer in his own right. Now many stars are remembering Allman and his talents on social media. That includes his ex-wife, Cher.

“IVE TRIED… WORDS ARE IMPOSSIBLE GUI GUI FOREVER, CHOOCH,” tweeted Cher, who shares a son named Elijah with Allman. Keith Urban posted, “My heart breaks today at the passing of soul brutha Gregg Allman. Blessings and peace to all the Allman family.” Ringo Starr said, “Rest in peace Greg Allman peace and love to all the family.”

John Mayer expressed, “Eternal love and life to Gregg Allman. RIP.” Chris Evans shared, “Whipping Post on repeat all day today. RIP Gregg Allman. One of the greats.” Bryan Greenberg remarked, “Bryan RIP Gregg Allman damn.” Melissa Etheridge commented, He showed me his tattoos… his voice…. his soul. #GreggAllman.” Sheryl Crow stated, “Broken heart. Gregg Allman I will miss you. #RipGreggAllman.”

“What a legacy @GreggAllman leaves behind. Jam on in the great hereafter,” Brad Paisley said. Brian Wilson wrote, “So sad to hear about Gregg Allman passing – a great musician. Love & Mercy, Brian.” Maroon 5’s James Valentine posted, “RIP Gregg Allman, what a voice… Listening to Allman Brothers “Live at Fillmore East,” a record that never gets old.” Sebastian Bach declared, “That’s it, i am turning off the f*cking phone for the rest of my life. I can’t @GreggAllman. bye #canttakeitwithu #cantlosewhatuneverhad.”

Peter Frampton wrote, “So sad to hear Gregg Allman passed away I admire him so much & had the honour of jamming wth him recently. A gentle soul with so much soul. Sharing a decades old photo of himself with the singer, Charlie Daniels posted, “Gregg Allman had a feeling for the blues very few ever have. Hard to believe that magnificent voice is stilled forever.” Travis Tritt tweeted, “I’m so very saddened to hear of the passing of rock & blues legend Gregg Allman. He was such a huge influence on me.” Cameron Crowe also said, “Thank you @GreggAllman… for the inspiration, and for those many holy nights on stage.”

Huey Lewis commented, “Gregg Allman… very sad day for rock ‘n’ roll… a great singer and writer. He could flat out sing. His music will live on!” El-P of Run The Jewels simply wrote, “rip gregg allman.” Kurt Loder similarly said, “RIP #GreggAllman.” And Jeanine Pirro offered, “So sad… Gregg Allman. RIP… I’m eating a peach in your honor.” The rock legend was predeceased by brother Duane, and is survived by his wife, Shannon, and five children, including Elijah. We extend condolences to all of Allman’s friends, family and fans.
