The six Baltimore police officers who arrested Freddie Gray are being charged for murder for their alleged role in his death, Maryland Attorney Marilyn Mosby said in a press conference Friday. And now celebrities are weighing in on Twitter. Gray died last month in police custody, which sparked mass protests and violent civil unrest in Baltimore.

Mosby announced Gray experienced a fatal spinal injury while inside a police van and the decision by the police to not put a seatbelt on him played a role in his death. “Mr. Gray suffered a critical neck injury as a result of being handcuffed, shackled by his feet and unrestrained inside the BPD wagon,” Mosby said during the press conference. She added the blade he was carrying was legal, his arrest was illegal, and the officers who detained him would be charged with second degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, assault and several other charges.

Shortly after the Mosby’s announcement, celebrities took to Twitter to share their thoughts. “Grey’s Anatomy” star Jesse Williams applauded Mosby’s actions. “Well done,” tweeted Williams. “Strong step, long journey. #Next!” He added, “Take time to consider the events that this investigation detailed & that a human being went thru that. Terrified, alone, surrounded, dying.” Malcolm-Jamal Warner was elated by Mosby’s statement. “I think I just fell in love w State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby!” he wrote. Missy Elliott described Mosby as “very strong” and “intelligent.” “Thank God for the courage and integrity of Marilyn Mosby,” added MC Hammer.

“I was hoping 4,but never expected This Outcome,” tweeted Cher, adding, “I’m SO thankful, #FreddieGray will receive in death,The Justice, that was denied Him In life.” Gabrielle Union expressed on Twitter, “Step 1… Thank you! #JusticeForFreddieGray.” And rapper Talib Kweli observed, “#FreddieGray had a LEGAL blade… Arrested illegally. Murdered in police custody.”

Other stars were left in utter shock by the swift decision. “Wow, I’m…stunned” tweeted an incredulous Questlove. Kelly Rowland simply tweeted, “wow.” And Piers Morgan wrote,”This is some statement. Powerful, eloquent words from @MarilynMosby.” Gossip Cop will continue to update reactions as they continue to pour in from social media.
