Celebrities are reacting to Jodie Whittaker being announced as the first female to play “Doctor Who” on the long-running BBC show. Whittaker, who’s taking over for Peter Capaldi, is now the first woman and the 13th “Doctor Who” on the British sci-fi series, which premiered in 1963. See Hollywood stars’ reactions.

“Dr Who is now a woman. Congrats, Jodie Whittaker,” tweeted Piers Morgan about the actress who’s best known for starring on the series “Broadchurch.” He added tongue-in-cheek, “Very disappointed Dr Who is now a woman. Massive insult to the non-binary gender-neutral community.” Ricky Gervais cracked, “If they ever make Hitler a lady I’m never watching the Discovery channel again.” And Joss Whedon wrote, “I’m absolutely for progress and inclusiveness but it is fair to worry when almost every ep of Doctor Who revolved around his big ol’ dick

.”

Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 joked, “Oh great a female Doctor Who. What next? Female real doctors? Female pilots? Female scientists? Female sisters and mothers? Female WOMEN?!” Meanwhile, comedienne Jen Kirkman shared her thoughts in a flurry of tweets. She began, “Guys who don’t like females playing beloved male characters, welcome to what women do, watch people that don’t reflect you personally.”
Kirkman followed that up with, “‘No. I don’t mind women running for president, just not Hillary.’ ‘No. I don’t mind women remaking movies, just not Dr. Who.'”
She last sent a message that read, “To the men upset about Dr. Who. Don’t worry. Our government is still run by men who make decisions about women’s bodies. #phew
.”

Meanwhile, Karen Gillan repeatedly exclaimed “Jodie” followed by several exclamation marks and party hat emojis. And Riz Ahmed expressed, “Jodie Whittaker is an incredible actress, an amazing person, and I’m so glad she’s the new #DoctorWho.” Gossip Cop will update as more celebrities react to “Doctor Who” now being played by a woman.
