Celebrities are reacting to Donald Trump calling the media the “enemy of the American people.” See reaction tweets from Hollywood stars below.

On Friday afternoon, the president tweeted, “The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!” Less than two hours later, he added, “‘One of the most effective press conferences I’ve ever seen!’ says Rush Limbaugh. Many agree. Yet FAKE MEDIA calls it differently! Dishonest.”

That, of course, was in reference to Trump’s press conference on Thursday, which was slammed by news publications and celebs alike. Now the president is getting ripped for his latest anti-media comments. And, it’s worth noting that Trump actually deleted a previous tweet that named fewer outlets.

The re-do featuring the additional broadcasters led Josh Groban to remark, “Ahhhh CBS and ABC you were THIS close to escaping his frighteningly childish mental instability. Better luck next time.” He further remarked, “This is the guy who says the press is going to wrongly say he’s ranting and raving. Yep. #upisdown.” And the singer later added, “My mom tells me not to tweet when I’m tired or depressed. I pass this wisdom to you should you choose to accept it, Mr President.”

George Takei said to his followers, “Trump says the media is the true enemy of the American people. So let’s take a poll. Who do you think does MORE HARM to the American people?” Jeffrey Wright expressed, “This petty, whining, dishonest, duplicitous, ignorant, thug loser is a leader in some folk’s eyes. Mind-blowing. #Sad.” He went on, “To the media groups listed below and any other of substance, clean this guy’s clock!! #Resist.”

Debra Messing similarly said, “Take Note People. This is Fascism-speak. #resist #persist.” Patton Oswalt wrote to Trump, “It’s all over, baby blue. Enjoy the rally, I guess.” And Adam McKay commented, “Trump is crazy. Crazy like a fox (has an orange hue & cant read or write).” Stephen Colbert also cracked, “Trump tweeted that the media is “the enemy.” Assuming he meant “the enema,” given how the media is constantly making him lose his sh*t.”

Alyssa Milano retweeted an NBC News reporter, who noted, “Sound familiar? ‘The press is the enemy…’ — Richard Nixon, on tape in December 1972.” Both Mark Ruffalo and Don Cheadle shared these tweets from the chairman of the Human Rights Foundation: “Demonizing the media echoes the world’s worst tyrants. The American people need a free press more than they need a childish autocrat. A free press can never be the enemy of the people. It is Trump’s chosen enemy because his real fight is against accountability & the truth.”

In his retweets, Cheadle added, “Check. Mate.” Tom Bergeron retweeted an editor of The Atlantic, who pointed out, “An American president sworn to defend the Constitution wrote those words.” Beau Willimon said of Trump’s message, “Written courtesy of Moscow. They sent to @realDonaldTrump this morning but it took a few hours to translate.” And Jesse Tyler Ferguson tweeted back to Trump, “You are my president (reluctantly) but your new job doesn’t entitle you to tell me who my ‘enemy’ is. Steppin into dictator territory there!”
