Comedian Charlie Murphy died Wednesday at the age of 57 following a battle with leukemia. Celebrities are reacting to the news on Twitter. See Hollywood stars’ tributes and tweets below.

The stand-up comic, who was the older brother of Eddie Murphy, passed away at a New York City hospital where he had been undergoing chemotherapy treatment. He was perhaps best known for his scene-stealing sketches on “Chappelle’s Show,” and also co-wrote and appeared in a few of his brother’s movies, including Norbit, Harlem Nights and Vampire in Brooklyn.

Prior to his death, Murphy has been performing on the Comedy Get Down Tour alongside Cedric the Entertainer, George Lopez, Eddie Griffin, and D.L. Hughley. The stand-up show still has dates scheduled through December.

One celebrity paying tribute to Murphy is Chris Rock, who tweeted, “We just lost one of the funniest most real brothers of all time. Charlie Murphy RIP.” Russell Simmons wrote, “Just came out of meditation and learned that one of my friends and my biggest comedy idol passed. Damn I loved Charlie Murphy.” Meanwhile, Raekwon Da Chef of the Wu-Tang Clan said, “Rest in paradise Charlie Murphy,” while Plaxico Burress added, “#RIP To my man Charlie Murphy.”

Wendy Williams expressed, “Rest in Peace Charlie Murphy. Thanks for the laughs. You will be missed.” Bow Wow offered, “From Roll Bounce to Lottery Ticket. I had the pleasure to work with charlie twice in my movies! RIP TO A GREAT ONE! damn.” And Gabrielle Union wrote, “Charlie Murphy was such a kind, sweet, funny man. Damn. Incredible talent, even better man. RIP.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Smith exclaimed, “NO! Charlie Murphy is one of the greatest storytellers I’ve ever heard in my life! My heart goes out to his family and all who loved him!” And Ice Cube said, “Damn sorry to hear about my friend Charlie Murphy. He took a chance on a young director in The Player’s Club. Always made me laugh. RIP.” And Michael Strahan simply stated, “RIP Charlie Murphy!”

Additionally, Zendaya tweeted, “Rest In Peace to the legend that is Charlie Murphy, thank you for always bringing us joy and laughter.” Vivica A. Fox expressed, “Oh no!! DAYUMMN! #Gone2Soon #RIP KING Murphy! #Respect.” And Kevin Hart posted a lengthy Instagram tribute, which began, “Wow….This is crazy. All I can say is RIP. Thank you for not only being a friend but for believing in me when I was young in this comedy game…”

Mike Epps offered, “#RIP to my man #CharlieMurphy we will ride for you bro.. 1 [love].” George Lopez wrote a long Instagram message, which started, “I’m heartbroken at the passing of our brother Charlie…” And Ice T said, “Noooooooo! My good friend Charlie Murphy died???! F**k!!!”

MC Hammer tweeted, “#CharlieMurphy one on the funniest dudes ever!!! Thanks for the good times and great memories Charlie. You will be greatly missed #RIP.” D.L. Hughley stated, “Rest in Paradise my brother.” And Al Roker wrote, “So sorry to hear about @charliemurphy passing. Funny, smart and fearless. #rip.”

Dane Cook said, “Charlie Murphy was a really nice really funny guy. Our paths crossed many times over the years. Sad news. #rip.” Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote, “RIP Charlie Murphy, whose storytelling was hilarious and unforgettable.” And Magic Johnson expressed, “Rest in peace Charlie Murphy, a very talented writer, actor, and comedian. Condolences to the Murphy Family!”

Rosario Dawson said,” I tip my hat to you sir. Rest in Paradise and in Power Charlie Murphy. #Fierce.” Eddie Griffin noted, “Blessed to have worked w/ my Brother for years, my friend; a God fearing man that feared no man Irreplaceable One Of a Kind Charlie Murphy.” And The Weeknd tweeted, “Rest In Peace Charlie Murphy.”

In a statement, the Murphy family says, “Our hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle, and friend Charlie. Charlie filled our family with love and laughter, and there won’t be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed. Thank you for the outpouring of condolences and prayers. We respectfully ask for privacy during this time of great loss for all of us.”
