A tabloid claims Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are headed for a split over the "age gap" between them. The story is completely untrue. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
According to NW, the couple's 18-year marriage is in trouble because the 74-year-old actor worries he's getting too old for his wife, who's 25 years his junior. "It's an open secret they've had a rocky period recently and there's growing talk that the age gap is starting to become an issue," a supposed source tells the magazine. "There's a lot of love there, but ultimately it's going to take a big effort to get things back on track."
The alleged insider further contends that Douglas fears his wife is "bored" of him and plans to end their marriage as a result. "Michael's a very vulnerable character despite his tough bravado and Catherine's very much the boss in the relationship," adds the questionable tipster. "He's reached a stage in his life where he wants to slow things down and unwind, while she's more ambitious than ever. Truth it, he's struggling to keep up and that's become a real problem."
However, Zeta-Jones' Instagram page paints a very different (and accurate) picture of the couple's marriage. The actress's social media account is practically a shrine to her relationship. Last month, Zeta-Jones shared a video of Douglas chatting with Hoda Kotb about their marriage on SiriusXM. She captioned the footage, "The true story of how my love @michaelkirkdouglas got me." Sharing the video and that caption would be proof enough that the couple's marriage is strong, but it's made even more significant by the fact that the interview took place in December 2018. The actress went out of her way to share an eight-month old video of her husband praising her.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Zeta-Jones shared an Instagram photo of her and her husband enjoying a lunch date, along with the caption, "Summer lovin'." Douglas shared the same image on his Instagram page, and added, "Lunch with my love. You make me so happy darling." These are just a few very recent examples of how the happy spouses share their love for each other on social media. There's an overwhelming amount of related content, including photos of date nights, PDA and adoring comments.
Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who confirms that the tabloid's article about the couple is completely false. Earlier this year, Gossip Cop busted Star for falsely claiming Zeta-Jones was divorcing Douglas. Last year, the Globe made up a story about Douglas and Zeta-Jones' marriage being in trouble over his Ant-Man and the Wasp co-star, Michelle Pfeiffer. This latest article focusing on the couple's "age gap," which hasn't been an issue at any point during their 18-year marriage, is more nonsense.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
