Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas’ marriage is frequently the subject of phony tabloid stories. Gossip Cop has debunked many false claims about the spouses of 18 years. Here are five recent wrong rumors.

In August, Gossip Cop busted the Globe for wrongly reporting that the couple’s marriage was in trouble because Douglas was “crushing” on Michelle Pfeiffer, his co-star in Ant-Man and the Wasp. The magazine alleged that the actor’s supposed infatuation with Pfeiffer was threatening his relationship. Not only did a rep for the spouses dismiss the story, but just one week before it was published, Zeta-Jones shared an Instagram photo of her and Douglas at the Deauville Film Festival in August 1998 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first time they met. And earlier this week, Zeta-Jones posted on Instagram in honor of the couple’s 18th wedding anniversary.

In July, Gossip Cop called out the blog NY Evening News for falsely claiming that Douglas and Zeta-Jones had said that critics of President Donald Trump were “traitors and racists.” The untrustworthy website didn’t bother to mention when and where the couple supposedly made the statement. That’s because they never said it. The actress has never discussed Trump publicly, while her husband has only briefly expressed his opinion on the president. A few months before the 2016 election, Douglas said in an interview on “Good Morning Britain” that he knows Trump “personally” and always found him to be a “charming guy,” but also noted, “I don’t agree with him politically.” The actor went on to say he was voting for Hillary Clinton.

In May, Gossip Cop debunked a Star story alleging that Zeta-Jones and Douglas were fighting over their 15-year-old daughter Carys supposedly being obsessed with Kendall and Kylie Jenner. A “source” told the outlet that the young girl wanted the Jenner sister to “mentor her in modeling,” and her mom had no problem with the idea, but Douglas wanted her to go to college instead. A rep qualified to speak on Douglas’ behalf assured us on the record that the article was “total fiction.” Carys hasn’t embarked on a full-time modeling career in the time since, but she did appear on the cover of Town & Country with her mom in September. Douglas supported Zeta-Jones and their daughter at an event for the magazine, proving the actor has no issue with his teenage girl being in the spotlight.

Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer in March for falsely claiming that Zeta-Jones was furious about Douglas reuniting with Basic Instinct co-star Sharon Stone on a new project. The tabloid said that the actress was jealous of Stone and didn’t want her getting close to her husband. The magazine’s story was based on claims from an anonymous “insider,” but Zeta-Jones’ spokesperson told us it was “ridiculous” and that Douglas wasn’t teaming up with Stone on a new film. As time has shown, the Basic Instinct co-stars don’t have any projects in the works.

And finally, Gossip Cop corrected OK! last year after the magazine claimed that Douglas and Zeta-Jones were fighting over their daughter’s modeling aspirations. It was similar to the bogus Star report cited above, but also said that the actress had “turned into a total stage mom,” while her husband was “sick with worry” about Carys going into the modeling world. As mentioned above, Douglas supported his daughter’s Town & Country cover, but she’s not currently trying to become a professional model anyway. In fact, Douglas told “Entertainment Tonight” earlier this month that all of his kids “want to be actors” and he supports their passion. The actor noted that he followed in his dad Kirk’s footsteps, and his kids will be “the next dynasty.”
