As the country music stars gear up to host the genre’s most prestigious awards show, they spoke to “GMA” host Robin Roberts about what fans can expect from this year’s broadcast. “We work really hard on this trying to come up with something,” Paisley said when asked how they keep the show fresh year after year. Underwood added, “And there’s always new music and new artists and things like that. So that’s one way.”

The musicians went on to talk about last year’s 50th anniversary of the CMAs. “All the legends that were in that room was just insane,” Underwood said. Meanwhile, Paisley looked back fondly on “the warmth of that show,” adding, “Country music is very good at paying respect to the predecessors.” When asked about some of their favorite moments from past awards shows, Paisley noted, “We’ve had a great time at Tim [McGraw] and Faith [Hill’s] expense over the years.” “And they’ve been up for it which is great,” Underwood added. “[They] laugh at themselves and play along and they love it.”

There will also be several surprise collaborations during the 51st annual show. Paisely revealed, “They really are thinking outside the box to make sure there are really cool collaborations that you don’t expect,” and then graciously added, “I predict that the highlight of our show is Carrie.” “If it is, it has absolutely nothing to do with me,” she said, to which he joked, “That’s true.” The 51st annual Country Music Association Awards air live on ABC from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on November 8.
