Carrie Fisher died on Tuesday, days after suffering a massive heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles. The actress, best known for her iconic role as Princess Lei in the Star Wars franchise, was 60 years old.

As Gossip Cop reported, Fisher went into cardiac arrest on an airplane on Friday afternoon, resulting in an on-board EMT attempting CPR on the actress. She was rushed to a L.A. hospital as soon the plane landed, and was treated in the emergency room, and then the ICU.

On Sunday, Fisher’s mother Debbie Reynolds said she was in stable condition. Sadly, however, she has now passed away two days later. A rep for the family says in a statement Tuesday, “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Fisher made her film debut in the 1970 comedy Shampoo alongside Warren Beatty and Goldie Hawn. The actress went on to achieve worldwide fame with the release of the original Star Wars in 1977, and her role as Princess Leia stands as one of the most famous film characters of all time. She reprised the part last year in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, and also recently released a memoir titled The Princess Diarist, based on diaries she kept while filming the first Star Wars. In her 2008 book, Wishful Drinking, Fisher opened up about her struggles with drugs and alcohol, as well as her mental health issues.

Fisher was the daughter of late singer Eddie Fisher and actress Reynolds. In addition to Reynolds, Fisher is survived by her 24-year-old daughter, who has appeared on “Scream Queens” and also had a small role in The Force Awakens. Gossip Cop extends our condolences to Fisher’s family during this difficult time.

Celebrities are now reacting to Fisher’s death. That includes a number of Star Wars co-stars, such as Harrison Ford, who released a statement.
