Miss North Dakota Cara Mund was crowned the 2018 Miss America winner on Sunday at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. She beat out 50 other women who competed in the pageant for the coveted crown. Miss America 2017 winner Savvy Shields, who represented Arkansas in last year’s competition, crowned her successor at the end of the telecast. Watch the video below!

Following three rounds of preliminary competitions that took place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the remaining 15 contestants in the televised pageant were Miss Tennessee Caty Davis, Miss Virginia Cecili Weber, Miss Pennsylvania Katie Schreckengast, Miss Louisiana Laryssa Bonacquisti, Miss District Of Columbia Briana Kinsey, Miss, Miss Texas Margana Wood, Miss New Mexico Taylor Rey, Miss Alabama Jessica Procter, Miss Missouri Jennifer Davis, Miss Alaska Angelina Klapperich, Miss Georgia Alyssa Beasley, Miss South Carolina Suzi Roberts, Miss New Jersey Kaitlyn Schoeffel, Miss North Dakota Cara Mund, and Miss Illinois Abby Foster.

Next was the swimsuit contest, and three pageant hopefuls were out of the competition, leaving Miss Alabama, Miss Texas, Miss Georgia, Miss Louisiana, Miss Tennessee, Miss Pennsylvania, Miss District Of Columbia, Miss North Dakota, Miss Virginia, Miss New Jersey, Miss Missouri, and Miss South Carolina. After that was the evening gown round, which cut two more women. But before they announced which two were gone, it was then time for the contestants to showcase their talents.

Miss Missouri, Miss Texas, Miss North Dakota, Miss New Jersey, Miss South Carolina, and Miss West Virginia all did dance routines. Miss Alabama and Miss District Of Columbia performed songs. And Miss Pennsylvania wowed the crowd with her saxophone playing, while Miss Louisiana did a ventriloquist act.

During the question-and answer portion of Miss America 2018, Miss Louisiana was asked what she thought was “overrated” (apparently “rompers”), while Miss New Jersey was questioned about who she would choose to date, an athlete or a doctor. Other competitors who answered questions were Miss District of Columbia, Miss North Dakota, Miss Missouri, Miss Alabama, and Miss Texas. Those who weren’t cut were asked one final question. Miss Missouri was queried about whether President Trump colluded with the Russians. Miss Texas, Miss North Dakota, Miss New Jersey and Miss District of Columbia had to tackle questions about such topics as climate change and Confederate statues.

Going into the final round of the Miss America pageant were five women. But there could only be one winner. In the end, Miss Missouri Jennifer Davis was the runner-up, while Cara Mund won Miss America 2018.

Hosting the Miss America competition for the ninth time was Chris Harrison. He was joined again by ESPN anchor Sage Steele. This year’s judges included Tara Lipinski, Maria Menounos, Thomas Rhett, Molly Sims, and Jordin Sparks. Joining them was Nina Davuluri, who was Miss America 2014. Check out video below of the winning moment in which Miss America 2018 was announced and crowned.
