Caitlyn Jenner did not “slam” Kim and Kourtney Kardashian for sharing “sexy selfies” amid the #MeToo movement. Gossip Cop can exclusively bust this story. A rep for Jenner confirms to Gossip Cop it was “made-up.”
While the Kardashians have spent years posting selfies on social media, Kim’s recent selfies in particular have been getting attention because they’ve been especially risque. Kourtney also made headlines this week for bikini photos she shared on Instagram. Given that both sets of snapshots were hot topics the last few days, HollywoodLife is employing one of its typical practices: It manufactured a related story.
This faux “exclusive” is headlined, “Caitlyn Jenner Slams Kim & Kourtney’s Sexy Selfies: It’s In ‘Poor Taste’ During #MeToo Movement.” The article is based on a so-called “source close to Caitlyn,” though Gossip Cop is assured on the record by Jenner’s rep that no one legitimately close to her spoke with the website. And to whom did Jenner slam Kim and Kourtney? Curiously, the blog never mentions that key piece of information.
Still, HollywoodLies, as it’s known, quotes its supposed snitch as saying, “Caitlyn feels like Kim and Kourtney’s latest selfies are not only in poor taste, but very poorly timed. During the height of the #MeToo Movement it is in not cool [sic] nor a good time to be flaunting half-naked bodies online. Caitlyn feels Kim and Kourtney are sending the wrong message to their millions of followers, that it is okay to objectify women.”
There’s an inherent problem in those contentions. The #MeToo movement in no way means women cannot or should not flaunt their bodies. This time of women’s empowerment is, in part, about spreading the message that just because some do choose to put their bodies on display, that is not an invitation for harassment or assault. It could be argued that the sisters are embracing this feminist wave, not going against it, by using their bodies as they want, not as men want.
The site’s alleged tipster further asserts, “Now Caitlyn worries that the sisters inappropriate posts are setting a poor example for their young children.” The issue here is that the allegation hinges on the assumption that Kim and Kourtney’s kids are currently seeing their moms’ provocative photos. There’s no evidence to suggest that they’re actually exposed to such imagery. After all, North West and Penelope Disick are 4 and 5 years old, respectively. They’re not exactly spending their time scrolling on Instagram.
It’s especially galling that HollywoodLies goes on to criticize Jenner, opining, “We can’t help but think her thoughts are a little bit too harsh.” But these are not the Olympian’s real “thoughts” and no one in her inner circle really shared them with the blog. This is the outlet’s own concoction, yet the online publication is pointing the finger at her. Frankly, Gossip Cop won’t be surprised if the website follows up this piece with another and equally fake “exclusive” about Kim and Kourtney firing back at her. Should that happen, just know such a reaction report would be as phony as this one.
Unfortunately, Celebrity Insider has already picked up the site’s claims, stating in its own headline, “Caitlyn Jenner Criticizes Kourtney And Kim’s Recent Revealing Selfies: ‘They’re In Poor Taste.'” Unsurprisingly, the outlet regurgitated the allegations without any fact-checking. But just to reiterate, as opposed to HollywoodLies’ unnamed, non-traceable and almost assuredly nonexistent “source,” Jenner’s own spokesperson tells Gossip Cop on the record that the blog’s article is 100 percent “made-up.”
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
