One of this week's tabloids claims Caitlyn Jenner's golfing buddies are annoyed she gets to hit from the ladies' tees. The story is completely made-up. And Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk it.
According to the National Enquirer, fellow members at Jenner's Los Angeles country club aren't happy about her driving from the tees designated for women since she was a pro at the game long before transitioning. A supposed source tells the outlet, "Bruce was a killer golfer and now so is Caitlyn. But no one wants to play with her because they believe she's beating them by bending the rules."
The alleged insider adds, "She looks like a lady, but swings with the strength of a linebacker. Then she gloats while winning round after round." The tabloid's report is based on claims from an anonymous and seemingly imaginary "source," but Gossip Cop checked in with a spokesperson for the former Olympian, who tells us it's untrue.
Jenner's rep, who's qualified to speak on her behalf, assures us the reality star is "on great terms" with the other members of her club and has had a "longtime relationship" playing with them. It's also worth noting that the former Olympic gold medalist seems pretty flexible when it comes to which tees she uses. At a PGA celebrity golf tournament in 2016, Jenner polled her competitors to see if they'd rather her hit from the men's or women's tees. The reality star acknowledged she'd tee off from wherever they deemed fair.
It should also be mentioned this isn't the first time the Enquirer has made up a story involving Jenner's athletic abilities. Last year, Gossip Cop called out the tabloid for wrongly reporting Jenner was becoming an MMA fighter. As time has proven, the reality star never went into the world of mixed martial arts.
Meanwhile, Gossip Cop busted the magazine in 2017 for falsely claiming Jenner was turning her memoir into a TV movie. No such project was ever in the works. It's clear the unreliable outlet comes up with fictional narratives about the reality star.
Additionally, Gossip Cop has debunked previous reports related to the former athlete's country club membership. We called out the Enquirer's sister publication, In Touch, for alleging Jenner demanded a transgender bathroom be installed at the club. The reality star, who was later given a spot in the women's locker room, never made such request. This latest article surrounding Jenner's golf club membership is more fiction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
