Bruce Jenner Jokes Jimmy Fallon Kimmel

Bruce Jenner’s interview with Diane Sawyer, in which he came out as transgender, became fodder for a number of jokes on the late-night talk shows on Monday, and Gossip Cop has a recap of some of the cracks made by Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, and Jimmy Fallon. O’Brien made only one Jenner joke. Fallon limited his jokes about Jenner’s interview and transition to just two comments, while Kimmel had a number of them in his monologue. David Letterman, for his part, avoided the topic entirely in his monologue.

O’Brien mentioned at the top of his monologue that Jenner was transitioning from male to female, and that he’s also a conservative Republican. The talk show host then cracked that Jenner is looking “forward to bashing Obamacare until he’s finished using it.

Fallon began his monologue by saying that Jenner made a “pretty big announcement” on Friday night, and then showed footage of the former Olympian confessing that he’s a Republican. The “Tonight Show” host then joked, “He declared he’s a woman and a Republican… In others words, the GOP finally found someone who might beat Hillary [Clinton].” He then began chanting, “Bruce 2016, Bruce 2016!” Next, Fallon noted how Jenner said, “For all intents and purposes, I’m a woman,” adding, “At which point, Joe Biden ran in and gave him a shoulder rub.”

Kimmel went a little further with rapid fire jokes about Jenner. Kimmel said, “I think he came off very well. He went from being kind of a boring man to a very charming woman. I think we may have found our next ‘Bachelorette.’” He then noted, “The interview got huge ratings — 17 million people tuned in to watch — and it did not disappoint. The most shocking part of the interview to me was when Bruce told Diane there was only one full-length mirror in the Kardashian house. I find that almost impossible to believe.”

But that wasn’t all. Kimmel joked, “Bruce also said that so far Kim has been the most accepting of the Kardashians, and the easiest to talk to. He said Kim credited her husband, Kanye West, with helping her understand how important it is to be true to yourself, which I agree with, but to a point. I think you should be true to yourself until yourself feels like walking onstage during someone else’s acceptance speech… But good for Kanye. It says a lot about a family when Kanye is the voice of reason.”

He added, “One thing Bruce did not divulge during the course of the two-hour interview is what his new female name will be. He said he didn’t want to reveal it because the media will go crazy, and he’ll never get rid of it. But I happen to know that the real reason he didn’t share his new female name with Diane Sawyer is because his new female name is… Diane Sawyer. He wanted to let her know privately they’d be sharing a name.”

On the same subject, Kimmel then joked, “One nice thing about a new name is he can finally get stuff monogrammed. It’s tough to do that when your initials are BJ.” He ended, “Turns out, all these years, instead of the Kardashians, we should have been keeping up with him.” Tell us what you think about the late-night comedians’ jokes about Bruce Jenner’s interview and announcing he’s a woman?
