Caitlyn Bruce Jenner ESPY Awards

Caitlyn Jenner will make her first public appearance on Wednesday at the ESPY Awards, where she’s being honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. Even though Caitlyn won’t be walking the red carpet this year, she has appeared in front of the press line several times when she was still known as Bruce Jenner. Check out the video below to see past appearances of Caitlyn at the ESPYs.

Caitlyn, who hadn’t yet transitioned to being a woman, first walked the ESPYs red carpet in 2002 with then-wife Kris Jenner. Each time after that she brought a different member of the Kardashian and Jenner families with her to the event. For obvious reasons, the families have always been hounded by the media, something Caitlyn repeatedly said she was disturbed by during ESPYs red carpet interviews.

“You have to give a performance when you go out on the athletic field, and you have to give a performance when you go out in front of that camera,” said Caitlyn in 2002, with Kris on her arm. She added, “It’s all about entertainment. It’s about the show.” Caitlyn echoed her sentiments a few years later in 2008 when she walked the carpet with Kourtney Kardashian. “Don’t give ’em any ammunition, that’s number one. Don’t give the media any ammunition because they’re going to run with it whether it’s true or not. You just have to be very careful,” said Caitlyn, adding, “You’re going to be scrutinized. The media’s tough.”

Not surprisingly, a rep for Caitlyn previously told Gossip Cop that the reality TV star didn’t want to walk the carpet this year because “it’s not about the press coverage. It’s an award for courage.” Caitlyn will be surrounded at the ESPYs this year by the entire Kardashian and Jenner kids, including those from her first two marriages.
