Are Britney Spears and her boyfriend Sam Asghari getting married in the singer's home state of Louisiana? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we've learned the truth.
"Britney & Sam Eloping!" reads a headline in the latest issue of OK! The accompanying article says the singer and her boyfriend of nearly two years are secretly headed down the aisle. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "They've talked about this endlessly, and as much as a traditional wedding has its appeal, they'd both sooner get it out of the way with something low-key."
The supposed source goes on to say that Spears doesn't want to have a ceremony anywhere "loud and busy like Vegas," so she instead plans to "hire a minister and get hitched somewhere outside of L.A. — maybe even in Brit's home state of Louisiana." The questionable tipster adds, "She appreciates the subtle things in life now, and Sam's been a huge influence in that. They plan to become husband and wife in early 2019!"
OK! has a very poor track record when it comes to the singer's supposed marriage plans, so we were hesitant to believe this latest take on the subject. In December 2017, for example, Gossip Cop busted the magazine for wrongly reporting that Spears and Asghari were already "secretly married." As time has shown, that's not the case.
In May 2017, Gossip Cop called out the magazine for falsely claiming that Spears was pregnant and getting married in Hawaii. The passage of time has also exposed that article as complete fiction.
The outlet's sister publications haven't been any better at accurately reporting about the singer's relationship. Earlier this year, Gossip Cop busted the National Enquirer for making up a story about Spears marrying Asghari in Las Vegas. And shortly before that, Life & Style wrongly reported that Spears was in the midst of planning a "wedding and a baby."
These countless articles about Spears getting hitched never pan out, but that doesn't stop the tabloids from writing them. This time around, the singer's imaginary nuptials are said to be taking place in Louisiana. Gossip Cop reached out to a source close to Spears, who wasn't authorized to speak on the record, but assures us this latest article is as made-up as the previous ones. If the singer and her boyfriend decide to tie the knot for real, Gossip Cop will report it. However, they simply have no plans to do so at this time.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
