Britney Spears is not looking for a residency in a foreign country instead of her planned Las Vegas gig, despite a bogus report. Gossip Cop can correct the story. There's simply no truth to it.
Last month, the pop star announced she was canceling her Las Vegas residency, Britney: Domination, which was scheduled to kick off on February 12 at the Park MGM resort. Spears took to Instagram to explain to her fans that her father Jamie nearly died after suffering a ruptured colon, and she needed time to put her "full focus and energy" on her family. The singer further announced in a press release that she's taking an "indefinite work hiatus," which includes postponing her new album.
RadarOnline, however, now claims Spears is looking for a "lucrative" deal to perform overseas instead. An alleged insider tells the blog that she's been considering "an exotic locale like Malaysia," where she may be needed to drive up tourism and "get big money." According to the supposed source, the singer has also received offers from venues in Singapore, South Africa and Monaco. "It could be extremely lucrative for Britney as she could play to the foreign crowd and tourists," adds the questionable tipster.
Although the blog doesn't come right out and say it, the suggestion here is that Spears was lying about canceling her Las Vegas residency to care for her father, and is instead looking to get a bigger payday overseas. There's simply no truth to the premise. Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to Spears, who wasn't able to speak on the record, but assures us the singer isn't planning a foreign residency of any kind.
Although it remains unclear if and when the singer's' Las Vegas residency will resume, "Entertainment Tonight" reported this week that Spears father is "getting stronger" and she "definitely plans to return to performing" once he gets a clean bill of health. Gossip Cop has reached out to a rep for Spears for more information about the future of her Domination shows, but we can confirm she won't be taking her act overseas.
RadarOnline is the same unreliable outlet that claimed in January 2018 that Spears was planning a "secret wedding" with her boyfriend Sam Asghari. The couple remains unmarried more than a year later. The blog clearly has no insight into the singer's personal life or her career plans. This latest article about a nonexistent overseas residency is another example.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
