Did Britney Spears really turn down an offer to appear as a guest on Dr. Phil McGraw‘s talk show and discuss her mental health treatment? That’s the claim in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation, and we’ve learned the truth.
A so-called source tells In Touch that McGraw has “been reaching out to Britney’s people about her coming onto his show in the hopes of her discussing her issues and why she sought treatment again.” The singer checked out of a wellness facility last week after spending a few weeks in treatment for mental health issues. Spears has reportedly been struggling as she continues to care for her father Jamie, who’s still dealing with health complications after suffering a ruptured colon last year.
The magazine’s alleged insider adds, “Dr. Phil knows booking Britney would be a ratings bonanza,” but her people rejected the offer. The questionable tipster further contends Spears’ dad has also “made sure that no one on her team allows her to do any interviews,” as “Britney doesn’t do well on talk shows” and “it would definitely backfire.”
Gossip Cop checked in with a Spears’ confidant, and we’re told no one from “Dr. Phil” has reached out to her camp about the singer appearing on the show. We’re assured the magazine’s report is simply “not true.” A spokesperson for Dr. Phil also confirms to us,” It’s 100 percent not true.” Unfortunately, the tabloids have made up a lot of phony stories about Spears in the wake of her dad’s health crisis and her subsequent stay in treatment.
Just last week, Gossip Cop nailed In Touch‘s sister publication, Star, for wrongly maintaining Spears was begging boyfriend Sam Asghari to propose amid her dad’s health issues. Shortly before that, we busted the magazine’s other sister outlet, the Globe, for inaccurately reporting Spears would be undergoing electroshock therapy during her stay in the treatment facility.
Also last month, Gossip Cop exposed the National Enquirer for falsely claiming Spears boyfriend was dumping her during her stay in the mental health facility. In reality, the singer’s boyfriend is the one who picked her up when she checked out of the center last week. The gossip media clearly has no insight into Spears’ personal life and current situation, so it’s coming up with bogus narratives instead.
It’s worth noting, after checking out of treatment last week, Spears took to Instagram to set the record straight on some of the rumors regarding her well-being. “Don’t believe everything you read and hear,” she wrote. That goes for the majority of the things you read about Spears in the pages of In Touch and its related outlets.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
